Can't see this mentioned anywhere. I got a frequent flyer email from Qantas this morning. On-line check-in and seat allocation is now available for international flights, 24 hours in advance. Good news.

As I've recently discovered, the OLCI facility for international flights also extends to connecting flights operated by other airlines. Flying MEL-LHR-DOH recently with LHR-DOH operated by BA, I was also able to do OLCI for the BA sector. But a bit of a moot point on this one as BA's barcode scanners weren't able to read the online boarding pass, and I had to get a new one when I arrived at LHR.

A bit of a n00bish question, but if checking in at the F checkin, is there much point in OLCI in advance and printing boarding passes?

My first time coming up, I'm usually hyper aware of OLCI in all other circumstances, but I'm hoping not to spoil the experience by being 'too' prepared. ;)

Not usually. But I was allocated a nicer seat upon OLCI-ing for QF9 in F just recently - I was confirmed in 2E when my upgrade cleared but was moved to 3K upon OLCI-ing. So i was glad that I OLCI-ed that one time. Or it could've been the work of the QF seating fairies and I'd have got 3K had I checked in at the airport anyway - who knows.

If you don't have at least Sapphire status and/or aren't booked to travel on eligible fares, it is good to utilise the OLCI facility for BA on their website when it opens for your flight, so you have first dips in seat allocation.

And what if I do OLCI but cannot print the BP? Is there a place to print it at the terminal before the bag drop?

Although I discovered this inadvertently, you can OLCI and present at the F check-in (if WP etc, presumably any other counter as well) and get a boarding pass. I found out the hard way that you can't select a seat and go back in and change it later

The agent at the F counter told be they would give you a new boarding pass anyway.

I'm with Keith; use OLCI to put your foot on a good seat, then get a boarding pass at the counter.

I'm in J and have already chosen my seat so no issues there. If a better one becomes available beforehand I will do it via the phone before the flight.

Of course this is all assuming that my upgrade to F doesn't come through.
