Fire fears sparks emergency landing of Qantas flight

In a terrifying ordeal, a Qantas flight due for Auckland has been forced to make an emergency landing over fears a fire broke out on-board the aircraft.

The QF141 flight, travelling from Sydney to Auckland, made an emergency landing at Auckland Airport shortly after noon local time.

A Qantas spokeswoman said the pilots received a warning light, indicating there was a fire in the front cargo hold, sparking the emergency landing.

“The aircraft landed safely at Auckland Airport and passengers have disembarked.

“Preliminary investigations report that there was no fire in the front cargo hold. Our engineers will inspect the aircraft to determine the cause.”

With no evidence of a fire on board, Qantas engineers are now investigating whether an electrical issue caused the false alarm.

I think after reading responses to when a SIN-LHR bound Qantas flight had a cargo bay fire alert, the drill was hit the extinguishers and get on the ground as quickly as possible. While it may have been a faulty sensor, you only know what you know at that point in time.

A Qantas Boeing 737-800, registration VH-VZE performing flight QF-141 from Sydney,NS (Australia) to Auckland (New Zealand), was descending towards Auckland when the crew reported a forward cargo fire indication. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Auckland's runway 05R. Attending emergency services found no evidence of fire, heat or smoke.

The airline stated that preliminary investigation did not find any fire in the forward cargo hold.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Auckland about 15 hours after landing.
