Oman Air planning to join Oneworld in 2024

Credit where credit is due. Oman Air came to the party and rerouted me via BKK at no extra cost so I could avoid the 737-8.

Outstanding customer service from them, sorted out with one email.
Wow! For a simple aircraft personal desire this is going well and truly above and beyond for an airline. And it only took one email.

Take note local carriers hopping around.

That's all well and good, but WY does have issues. For example:

I'm WY Gold and can confirm that the product is very variable. Certainly no better than the other ME carriers.

It was more about the hard product for me, but nonetheless - you are completely correct. Kudos to WY!

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Now that they are confirmed to be a new partner within OneWorld, are we likely to see soon within their website FF partners as choice options? IE BA and QF and AY as example. I see only their own programme and Etihad as options. I guess maybe once a date is confirmed?

Can't wait for WY to become a member of OneWorld.

Then I'll be able to have a couple of glasses of decent (self-pour - shame on you QR) champagne, without using Priority Pass at BKK, before my Qantas (or other OW) flight.

Definitely going to be interesting to see what happens and if any politics come into play.
I do have a feeling though that award flights aren’t going to be as plentiful as many have hoped unfortunately

That article suggests that OW membership may be off the cards now, probably can’t afford the additional expense
Well it’s purely speculative, not based on any source - just an open question. But a valid question.

With how cosy WY is with QR I wouldn’t be shocked if they eventually get blended into the mix
Here's some food for thought.

Based on that, I wouldn't get too excited about WY (and I was a Gold FF with them).

Or perhaps, they're already in QR's clutches (how awful for competition).

QF as a founding member of oneworld, could and should use their veto powers to block Oman's OW application as this application is sponsored and driven by QR. Why are QF harming themselves by not using their veto and allowing QR to coerce them?

There is zero benefit for the national carrier if Oman joins, but plenty of potential harm and risks. A lot has changed in OW since Oman first announced its intentions in 2021, and the level of tension between QF and QR has never been hotter. It's high time QF made the right move which is available to them as a perk of being a founding member.
