Hi guys

In the past couple of months I've noticed that my employer's travel agency (FCM) has been booking my flights in such a way that the booking includes the flight out and back. What this means is that I can now check-in for my return flight and perform seat assignment etc prior to the 24 hour minimum limit. It appears that I am among very few that have this timing privilege since my seating assignment is nornally well up the front (1st row behind J - and not even WP status currently).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Domestic OLCI check-in and seat assignment wasn't available until T-24 hours? Anyone else been able to do/explain this?

If you have a return trip on the same day as your first flight, then you are able to check in to both flights at T-24 of the first flight (T-23 if it departs from WA).

Is this what you are seeing?

As far as I know the only way this is possible is the way Mal has mentioned. That is using the same day return check-in ability (which I think also requires no check-in luggage, but that may have changed).

I have two flights tomorrow and have checked in for both at T-24 of the first. Allocated row 4 aisle for the first and row 6 window for the second. I moved myself to row 4 aisle for the second also. So much for preferences which are forward aisle.

This is why I try to avoid checking in > 24 hours; one often gets a default allocation, similar to that used for International connections.

In you case you were lucky to be able to move; in one similar circumstance no better forward seat was available; I had to settle for an exit aisle seat on the 737.

That has to be the case.

I booked the flights for the Queensland Mining Towns tour in January as a series of multi-trip flights to minimise credit card surcharges and some of the bookings went across more than one day. Using OLCI for each itinerary I could only check-in for flights scheduled the next day.
