Ok, so why does everyone continue to bag Qantas?

Just to swing this back to reasons why people might bag Qantas....

When they apply and raise fuel surcharges in a heartbeat as soon as the price of oil goes up, and then, when it (oil price) goes down, responds to criticism/requests to lower the surcharges with evasive, unsatisfactory replies, who wouldn't seek every opportunity to criticise a company that treats consumers like this?

A little unusual to pick on the airline as it's normally the oil companies that aren't passing on the reductions. Of course QF would pass this on ASAP. Wouldn't they:?:

Heh heh... SQ have just announced their surcharge is going down by 10%.

QF is just leaving a gap between announcing base fare increases (yesterday) before they reduce the fuel surcharge, no doubt with much fanfare.

I think that you are confused. I just went through all the Qantas timetables and literature and I am pretty sure that there is no other city in Australia.

It really depends on what you are after. Sure there are others that do some things better however with QF you have a really good chance of getting to your destination in the required number of pieces! ... ONE.

CX = Cathay Pacific.
SG = Qantas FF Status Gold or often refered to here as Scum Gold.

ISDO - As already advised CX is Cathay. SG "Status Gold?" never heared if this one. I thought SG was probably an error for Singapore - normally SQ.

I'm sure you'll be very happy with Qantas or Cathay - both very good. Pick any airline and ask people to be critical and you'll get plenty of complaints. In this case Qantas is the focus for no particular reason - just someone couldn't see why they were criticized and invited comment. If you read back over all the comments in this thread, Qantas come out very well. Personally, Qantas is still my first choice from Australia if the price is right.

I believe the main reason for Qantas being criticised is the continued devaluation of the QFF program.

I remember in my early FF days the CSM welcome announcement that occurred normally after the seat belt sign was turned off included words to the effect that "...Qantas is acknowleged as having one of the best Frequent Flyer Programs in the World ...". Of course this was back when Qantas were competing with Ansett.

FWIW, I'm happy to fly Qantas; however as far as FF programs go, I would be off to AAdvantage in a flash if it weren't for the enhanced benefits available to QF WPs.

Yeah this is one thing that was concerning me about AAdvantage - the difficulty of achieving WP equivalent status - that was until boss advised of 5 RTW trips next year....

Now 1,3 & 4 I love!

Dave Nobel has done such a good job on converting me to AA. The whole "Buy 1, get one free" DONE4 (well 7,000 points short of free) if you do it right is _very_ actractive.

Need to think about this a little more. When I travel PER-BNE I usually have 5 boxes all hovering at 30KG each that QF happily take for me at no charge.

As ever YMMV if you are regularly carrying 150Kg (5 @ 30kg) I think that might outweigh the free flights potentially. I have been thinking carefully about how much the additional points benefit me above and beyond QF WP - given mrssimongr doesnt like to fly - would it be better to be v.high tier QF WP....

Also - upgrades (yes I know there arent many available int'ly) - with AADv - you cant upgrade QF metal (I think) - so if i want that F seat/bed on a trip - I cant get it using AAdv points...

• Ability to request Pre-allocation of exit rows on International Flights (or 34H)
• Access to AC's in LOTFAP when flying US domestic itinerary
• Ability to get FF points including applicable status and cabin bonus when flying JQ
• Access to additional Elite WHY award class on QF Operated flights.

Of course, if one has achieved QF Life Time SG these become less of an issue.

Standard allowance for QF domestic economy class is one piece (3 pieces for business class). So you could be checking 4 additional pieces. QF's standard excess charge for domestic flights is $20 per piece for a total of $80. So it depends how often you need to do it.

I rang them about this, and they seem to add them up.

3 pc for J, 1 extra for Paid QC (even though it is suspended) and 1 extra for WP.

That is why I don't pay. So if I was AA OW Emerald. I would have to pay $40 (Expired QC and no WP) per flight. That is not so bad I guess.

There may also be a chance they could waive it every now and then seeing I am a OW Emerald with another OW airline. What are the chances of that do you guys (gals) think?
