I managed to get comp Plat but I'm at 1780 SCs - only 20 away with additional flights already booked that will get me over the line. So the T&Cs now say what I have been saying all along was VA's intent. Don't want to sing the "told you so" song, but....

I think it is proof that the previous wording did not match the intent, despite your arguments that it previously matched the intent.

Not at all. I agreed that the wording didn't match the intent previously. And as I just said, the wording does now match what the intent was all along.

We're not arguing that the wording is not bad because it is. What it is supposed to mean is different to how people are interpreting it, and they definitely need to fix the wording.

The old t&cs had the same problem - which I think is where 777 started this thread with the complaint to Virgin at the beginning when Platinum was first introduced. They were reworded to make it clearer that the 1500/2000 SCs were on top of the qualifying amount. They seem to have created the same issue again, but I'm 100% sure that to get partner gold/plat you need to earn 1500/1800 SCs. Previously you actually needed 2300/2800 (ie. 800 requal + 1500/2000 on top) not 1500/2000 total like some have suggested. If it was 1500/1800 I would have been offered partner gold 2 months ago but wasn't.

It also doesn't make sense that they would reduce it below the level to get the same through family pooling. Having it as 800+500/1000 means the rates are the same as would be required to pool someone to gold/plat in the first year.

Pretty sure that says that I agreed the T&Cs were not worded well, but the intent was exactly what they have now been changed to.

What I am furious about it how Virgin have changed the Companion Membership terms and conditions 2 times in the last 2 months without providing the 30 day notification they promise.

As far as I can remember, the different wordings meant the following:

Originally - 800 + 2300/2800
July Change - 500/1000
August Change - 800 + 500/1000

Now, I can understand that the last change is what Virgin probably original intended, buy they shouldn't be allowed to just keep changing the meaning this particular benefit until they are satisfied as each different change results in a significantly different outcome.

When I called the Velocity Service Centre in late July they told me I only needed 260 SC's to gift a Gold membership (I.e. reach 500 towards requal) and thus I deciced to start planning some trips so that I could make it happen.

Subsequently, Virgin just go and change the TOS again which means I will not get the Gold companion membership as expected (and explained by the Virgin Platinum call center). Now I would have to book way more flights then I can right now to get it.

This whole situation with Virgin make me want to fly with them less and is really frustrating when I am trying to be a loyal customer.
