Yet another Citibank Gold offer saw it in Sydney Morning Herald website .... This time 9500 QFF points. But of course still need to pay the annual fee.

Looks like Citibank is really aggressive trying to get the new customers.
 
I applied on Monday night and got the final confirmation in the wee hours of Saturday morning. The details have been automatically added to my existing Citibank Internet banking detailing the credit limit etc.


For others who have received cards recently, do they have the new Visa logo on them yet??

Thanks to Beardoc who started this thread. You have saved me $119. I had applied for, and recieved the citibank gold to replace my ezy mastercard when I read your notice. I found no other way onto the "no fee" deal other than your link and applied again without activating my new card. I have now cancelled the original and am happily using my new new visa. :D
 
Photocards?

Has anyone that has a Citibank Gold Card availed themselves of the Photocard option? It's apparently free, and it embeds your photograph and signature onto the front of the card.

Anyone else done it? Is it all that useful and does it increase security?
 
I think the photo on the front would of been handy at a recent purchase I made at a Sports store in Brisbane. They asked to see additional ID such as a drivers license. I refused as the signature on the back is all the proof they require. I guess having a photo on the front of the card would have stopped me causing getting all hot and bothered over a pair of shoes.

We all tend to carry around a photo ID for just about everything else these days. For work I have 4 separate photo ID's of sorts. ASIC, MSIC, Photo ID and new photo ID/computer Smartcard. Also have Passport, Drivers Licence, and the list goes one. What's the problem with one more?

How would it be different to a potential thief seeing your Driver's Licence? I'm not sure if there's any INCREASED risk from having a Photocard. Would very much like to know if you do perceive there being any excess risk.

This is true. But you wouldn't carry your passport around with you everyday like a credit card though. But why have yet another photo ID?

Some examples why I would NOT have it include but not limited to:

If you give your card to a dishonest waiter they could not only skim your card number but they could make a copy of your photo as well, increasing the risk of identity fraud.

Another possibility: If you are a well-known person, such as a celebrity or a well-known/high profile person, a thief could recognise your photo and dramatically increase their spending if they see who the card belongs to. You could recognise the picture more than the name.

And I know one company that is actually changing their work IDs with new ones that will not display the company name, their photo or the employees name for security reasons. This was due to employees wearing their ID around their neck/belt and being abused in the city. No, I will not reveal which company it is.

The important point is to "reduce the risk". I say it is a personal choice whether or not to have this photo option but to me, I'd prefer to reduce rather than increase the risks.

See my next post. Granted your wallet may get stolen and the thief wil see your drivers licence. But refer to my example regarding the dishonest waiter - he could copy your photo while you aren't watching. (this is merely by handing your card over, and not having your wallet stolen at all).

Also the so called thief of the wallet may not be interested in your drivers licence, he/she might only be interested to steal your credit card and then discard the wallet altogether.

All I'm saying is you just have to be careful. To have the photo or not, it's a personal choice. I'm just saying you should consider all the possibilities when deciding why you think you should have the photo or not.

I'm happy:D Just found my new zero fee Gold Visa Citibank card (8 days after applying online using the link above) in my letterbox after my weekend away - this is to replace my old Gold Visa Citibank card with its $119 annual fee...even got a reasonable credit limit...no where near my previous limit which was too much anyway, and I would never be spending that much on my card. So next I need to tarnsfer all my direct debits to the new card, and then cancel my old one:mrgreen::mrgreen:. Many thanks to the OP for bringing this offer to my attention...if I keep this card for another 20 years, he has saved me over $2000 at today's dollar value. I owe you a beer or two (?maybe at the next QP meet up;))

PS: they obviously knew about my previous Citibank Gold card as they have not ask for a 100 point ID.

PPS: I had the photo on my previous Gold Card and it really was not very useful as basically no one looked at it:(

I've also successfully transferred from Citibank silver to this free Citibank gold (well, 90% successful)

I applied on that web site, they called my employer, then also asked me to fax them a pay slip. Then approved, sent me the card, all done pretty much standard procedure.

They also didn't ask for 100 point ID.

Getting the card was easy. Combining the old card to the new card was the hardest part.

I called them on Friday asking them to combine my old card and this new card together. For the sake of easier understanding, I would say my old silver card has a credit limit of $100, while the new free gold card only has a credit limit of $50.

The operater told me that it was not possible to combine my credit limit and balances to one account. She advised because my old card has $80 balance on $100 limit, while my new free gold only has $50 limit, it is impossible to transfer $80 to a card with only $50 limit. So I asked if that means she would be able to combine the credit limits if I make a payment today, so the money will clear the next day, and call back. Her answer was then "no".

She told me I would have to apply for a credit limit increase on the new card, which I cannot do because I haven't had that card for 9 months. (Citibank has this policy of the first credit limit increase application must be done after having your card for 9 months). I told her I've been with Citibank so many years, and have always paid 2 or 3 times per month because my credit limit is too low, I should not have to wait 9 months at all. Her answer was flat no.

I then asked her if she could just copy my $100 limit to the new card, and close the old silver account. Her answer was still "no". Now this is getting very strange. I explained to her that, I have 2 cards at the moment, one with $50 limit, another with $100 limit, that means I can spend $150. Now I'm only asking her to copy my credit limit of $100 to the new free card, then close the old silver immediately, which means I would only have $100 to spend, not $150. Now isn't it safer for Citibank to only give me $100? It's it more dangerous, higher the risk, to let me have $150 instead? So why can't they copy my credit limit across? It doesn't make any sense! She then put me on hold for a long time. (She had actually put me on hold many many times during this phone call).

Another operator evetually told me they would combine my account, so my new free gold card would have a limit of $150 and my $80 balance transferred there. She also said that I can call back in 3 days time if I want to have a limit of only $100. She also confirmed all my reward points will be transferred to the new card as well.

Now, we just need to make sure they combine my account, not doing a balance transfer so my $80 will start incurring interest immediately.

I also enquired about another problem with my account. I was offered to upgrade my old silver card to a new card with a credit limit increase about 2 months ago. I only ticked to box for new credit limit, did not tick the upgrade from silver to gold option. They upgrade my account to gold regardless, and charge me a pro rata fee for the upgrade. I never activated my gold card. I asked the operator if they can refund the fee because I never requested a gold card.

She told me I did ask for it. I asked her if she would like me to fax her the form I filled in which clearly shows I did not tick the upgrade option. She then told me my $100 credit limit was too high for silver card, so they have to charge me annual fee for gold card even if I only have a silver card. I immediately asked if I should go to the Banking Ombudsman. She didn't know what to say next.

Anyway, I hung up my mobile phone, and the screen shown the call as exactly 40 minutes long. I did not wait in the queue for 40 minutes, but actually talked on the phone for 40 minutes. I wonder how many calls they take in an hour???

Do you mind attaching a copy of the letter onto the site? I'm sure sometime down the track, I'll need to fax this to convince them that this is indeed fee free, as they'll have no clue on what they are promoting :D

I have applied this card and got approved.

Just noticed:

* No annual fee will be charged on your Credit Card account for the life that your account remains open.


Does it mean when you close your account, the annual fee will be applied?

Normally the adv just said NO ANNUAL FEE FOR EVER. But this time, they used the terms and conditions to explain this paramount information.

Any tricks?
 
I think it means no annual fee as long as this account is open, and you will need to pay annual fee if you change to another account, example downgrade to silver or upgrade to platinum.

And you should not post things like this. You are giving Citibank ideas again!!! ;)
