Off duty staff pax 'misbehaving'?

Standard industry practice within Australia, is that when flying on other work duties - pilots are seated in Economy.

Qantas is the only major domestic airline left with archaic work policies that require pilots to be seated in Business Class.

so why is an EBA which is constantly reviewed and agreed upon by the company and its workers 'archaic'?? you clearly have no idea what the WHOLE EBA encompasses, (both sides have 'gives and takes')... and your comment clearly is a 'shoot from the hip' uninformed rant
 
FYI, it's EBA time at both major airlines. Unfortunately this leads to a lot of online trolls
 
LOL, I am not a troll, nor was my statement a rant... I have a rather vast history of posts on AFF which demonstrate that I don't consistently support one brand over another (and generally disrespect all airline management equally) - unlike the two posters above me, both of whom have a posting history which identifies specific inclinations!

Clearly, if the legacy airline industry in the USA has downgraded pilots from riding in domestic first, and no other pilot at any other major airline within Australia gets to do it (and all those pilots still seem to be able to function without it), then I am quite right in referring to it as an archaic work practice. (Possibly one that each of the posters above wish to retain for some kind of personal undisclosed gain?) The world changes, job security and benefits erode, people need suck it up or move on!
 
What annoys me is when business class has several JQ FAs in uniform occupying seats.And when it happened several I recognised having flown in and out of MCY with them.

And what is wrong JQ FAs travelling in business class? As long as they behave it's between them and their employer.
 
Because Jetstar doesn't have domestic business class for paying pax.
Second JQ is only part of QF when they want it to be.this is an insult to paying pax.
Sorry I just don't think this is a way to engender loyalty.

Look back further in the thread and read what else has been written by others in the industry and they contradict you.

The US airline industry is a total mess so hardly a good comparison at any level and where pilots sit (J or Y) is possibly significant if you think it through.

Seriously, everyone knows JQ is a part of the Qantas Group. Just as is Red Planet, and things like Qantas Assure. Just because they are part of the Qantas group doesn't mean anything.
Secondly there aren't any paying passengers for J class as they don't get confirmed J class seats on their duty travel. They get the upgrade if there are seats remaining,
 
Also of note was their behaviour.As some have observed talking loudly and being served meals as per their seating.We were in Row 3 but paying pax in row 4 missed out on their choice of meal.
Compare that to the 2 pilots in J SYD-BNE last week.Both in Row 1,offered meals but declined until other pax had their meals.
As to JQ being part of QF.Yes but not always for paying pax-I travel MCY-MEL-DPO and reverse.No checking through of bags,now have to lug bags between terminals and coming home have for all practical purposes lost QP access.
I also thought JQ staff were on a different EBA to QF staff.

But these things have been around for 10+ years, it's not like it is anything is new or not known about already. Everything about JQ and QF are different, they are run as two separate companies with two different 'head offices', the only way they are interlinked is that the Qantas Group owns, Qantas and Jetstar, as the Qantas Group owns many other things too.

Majority of the time where JQ staff are actually travelling on QF is when the Thai based crew are finishing up their duty or positioning to commence their duty.

When I was 'front line sales' in QF a few lives ago, I would fly free in F on many airlines as long as they were not QF. QF never did give me an orientation QF flight it was a strange business practice. Lucily, I was creative.

I think Perks in an airline can be different to some other worker perks as it's not just bonuses, discounts or whatever but part of it crosses over into actual pax comfort and availability which can have people asking questions/complaints.
Employees should have respect for the frequent flyers that have been loyal and who either pay or use their points through a fairly fair amount of flying .
There are only so many seats available and if employees take up seats(as per thread topic) they should still be acting like they are on duty .If it's a work perk act like it otherwise some behaviour puts you off duty IMO.

In my experience, crew sometimes forget how much revenue business class actually costs.
There is a disconnect between actual cost and perceived cost by crew, who can pickup biz seats for 90% off.

A mess, besides being the most profitable group of airlines in the world. Must be doing something right!
 
Isn't this the same argument why some people are against those who have attained status through work funded flights?

No.Their flights have been paid by someone to QF or whichever airline it is.I don't envy the road warriors.
