So was on QF146 from AKL earlier this evening

Had 1A picked a few weeks ago. Looked this morning and the cabin was still pretty wide open. Except I had the seat next to me occupied. Oh good a shadow I thought.

Later it hit me that I wouldn't see a shadow in MMB. Checked again & def occupied. So I moved to 1F as both were free ( there were 5 pax in J ).

Boarded and yes there was someone in the seat. Just before takeoff he moved to 1A and we all had window seats in the end

Just seems a strange seat selection to me? Why sit next to someone with so much choice. Was it a chatty AFFer!

Yes it is odd. Some people do have favourite seats.

On CX in business my preference is for row 11 or row 16 window. If someone is sitting in the aisle and row 15 and row 17 are empty I will still choose row 16.

I'm sure there's still a significant % of passengers who do not even bother with seat selection at all.

I had a similar experience on BA flying DUR-JNB back in april. There was only 2 pax in J yet and I selected 2F (1A was blocked) and he was in 2D with the rest of the cabin empty...

he wasnt very chatty.
