Obtaining Gold membership without enough QF segments?

I have the requisite status points for Gold membership this year, but, being an ex-pat living in Europe, I find myself two QF segments short of the minimum four. Most of my flights are with OneWorld partners and I've no real prospect of more QF flights this year.

I can try and get a code share booking, but they are not on convenient segments for my travel patterns and the Qantas website doesn't seem to make flights available unless Australia is one of the ports of call. I haven't tried by phone yet.

Or maybe I can ring up Qantas FF, explain that I'm a loyal ex-pat that flies Qantas whenever he can, and beg?

Or maybe some other idea?

Cheers,

Unfortunately the requirement for four squiggles seems to be one that Qantas strictly adheres to. Hopefully someone here will know of a quick flight in the region that will meet this requirement.

You can't book a return Qantas flight to SIN? Not sure what the price of that airfare would be and whether it is worth it or not.

So unfortunately unless you take those 2 extra flights I think you are at the mercy of Qantas.

Can't hurt to call them and explain your situation.

Humm... QF3383/4 (ZRH - LHR) would work for me, but looking at the route map confirms that you cannot book these segments unless they are in conjunction with a service to/from Australia.

As JohnK says, perhaps invest in a weekend trip to Singapore. What is your membership renewal date? Try searching on Matrix - ITA Software for fares, they can be cheap.

I can see availability over the next month on selected days for FRA-SIN-FRA for just over 800EUR

Of course no one checks id on flights in aus .... You could have a friend fly two cheap segments for you in aus.

Which is highly illegal, and against the terms of the QFF terms and conditions. Get Caught, and you'll lose your points, status credits, have your account closed, and most likely be referred to the AFP.

Whats the chance of getting caught? <1%?
Get a mate to do SYD-MEL return in 1 day. All you need to do is purchase the tickets and let your friend know your QF FF number. Check in at the QC self serve kiosk, fly, done.

Should aff members be encouraging others to break the law?

Just because you don't see it happen doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

If the "friend" was to get caught, how would you feel?

I could see the sense in booking a LHR-SIN return to maintain WP1 or maybe WP.....but for SG - no way!

IMO save your coin & join another airline FF offer.

I would also call & ask the question...QF appear to have discovered the concept of competition lately.

What they said.

Also, if, heaven forbid, something disastrous happened and lives were lost in an incident, and "you" were one of them, how would you feel?

There's just so many reasons not to do this. As mannej said, it's not like it doesn't happen, but AFF does not condone its members breaking rules let alone laws.

Dunno, SG has the QP membership not to mention the OWS privileges. To me it's worth it (but then again I'll drop anything to fly anywhere at anytime :D)

Are you guys serious? It is not illegal to fly under a different name in Australia. Immoral maybe but not illegal.

No idea about that but I reckon the terms and conditions of the QF FFP would certainly prohibit it.

It's actually called 'Fraud'. You would be obtaining an 'advantage' whether it be financial or otherwise. By law, the act of deception can be carried out in many ways. There is even a specific section under the Crimes Act to deceive a machine (ATM), and this might even be covered under Sect 178BA of the Crimes Act..Obtain a financial benefit ... not worth it.

Forget about going to SIN. Do a $1400 status run for WP from the USA :)
