I was caught up in this problem last night too

I was going to fly up to the Gold Coast on the last flight of the day, checked reward flight availability at around 4:00pm, no problem, still PE seats left. Went to book at around 5:30pm and nothing... Phoned the GCC and was told about the flight cancellation and they were re-booking people on the later flight, hence no availability.

So I looked at today, there was only the 7:10am showing with availability, a bit of an early start :shock: But booked it...

Moral of the story, book when you first see availability!

On the plus side, it was a BSI aircraft this morning, my first time on one. Very new, very nice, very Virgin America!
