With the launch of new MEL to NLK services Norfolk Air appear to have to position their aircraft fro SYD to MEL to OP the service.
They are selling all inclusive fares one way of $1:p
The only 3 slight downsides are
1/its a VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVery old 737-200 but for $1 who cares
2/its only 1 day per week (a Fri ex SYD) and from the INT terminal
3/ they dont appear to have a return from MEL so you'll have to mix and match with the airline of yr choice for the return
So jump in now seats avail across the MEL cup and peak Xmas hols

Apparently OzJet wetleases their planes to Norfolk Air... Hmmm. Another chance to fly on OzJet on the SYD-MEL route :D

I think you will find it's changed a bit since you last flew - no longer all business class seats. And also it's D-sticker operations through international terminal.

Now if I want to fly SYD-OOL (on A Friday), it's cheaper to go:

SYD-MEL on Norfolk - $1
MEL-OOL on Tiger - $49 or so.

Some of the $1 fares (actually -$61 given the taxes) already gone
and reverting to what appears to be a regular fare of $95 all-in

Still good

Now that was the best $1 airfare sale I have ever seen... the system worked flawlessly, availability (on the one flight a week) was good... AND if I turn up to everything that I have just purchased, I will become NorfolkAir's number one customer. LOL

Mind you, I have always considered $50 a reasonable price to pay between Sydney & Melbourne one way, so a whole heap of contingency $1.02 airfares is a fair trade off.

Now I can wait and see -
1, if I need to go to Melbourne on a Friday over the next year, and
2, if I can get back. LOL

Thank you AFF posters, & of course OZ JET! :D

P.S. Would have been more helpful if they had remembered my details each booking.

So is this $1 including taxes? If so, how is that possible aren't there some standard taxes that have to be paid such as fuel levy etc.....so whats the final price you actually get billed if you book one?

Fuel Levies are NOT standard taxes; they are a way that some airlines try classing part of the basic cost as a tax.

Yep, as Dave says, Fuel "taxes" are not real taxes - they are a schneaky way of earning revenue for airlines. There are true taxes and levies such as departure taxes and GST etc though.

The fare is actually -$61.24 (yep, minus) after tax ($62.74) etc, they come out at $1.

Not sure if any cheap fares are left though.

From this month's QF newsletter:

Fly on points to Norfolk Island
You can now redeem your Qantas Frequent Flyer points for Award flights on OzJet between Norfolk Island and Sydney, Brisbane and Newcastle. You will continue to earn points on OzJet when you have a Qantas flight number on your ticket. Book online as usual at qantas.com.

Shame these $1 fares weren't QF flight numbers. 50,000 points for $50 would have been quite good. :p

I think the 500 SC would be nice too!

Edit: NB - WP for $140! I'm in that!

Hi there,

I travelled on this service on Friday last week.

Flight departed from Gate 50 at SYD INTL. Flight was close to full...but predominantly consisted of 'older' clientele either travelling to Norfolk Island via Melbourne....or returning to Melbourne after their week away.

I think there were only about 3 pax travelling on the domestic SYDMEL portion of the flight (including my friend and I).

Flight itself was fine - an Ozjet plane with a couple of rows of J class....the remainder was economy in a 3-3 configuration. Were served a Ham, Cheese & Tomato sandwich, Byron Bay cookies and a soft drink. LOL - catering alone was worth more than what we paid for the flight! We had quite a 'rough' landing in Melbourne, and used almost all of the runway up as we tried to stop.

Quickly completed customs formalities at MEL via the Domestic lane - baggage claim area was extremely quiet (just our flight)....and we had a somewhat 'express' exit through the xrays once we collected our luggage.

All in all though, certainly no complaints from me...and looking forward to my next $1 flight in January for the Australian Open....
