Re: Noise cancelling Headphones to share with partner for iPad and In-Flight AV Syste

That's a great price! I am also looking at getting 1 of these, will have a look on ebay to see if that price is still available.

Hi, Okay my two sets of FAKE Bose QC15s arrived. I know they are fake as both boxes/headsets and documentation had the one identical serial number. I did a fair bit of research on fake QC15s and it appears that some have identical circuitry and were only discovered as copies when sent to Bose for servicing/repair. Although I will take these to a Bose outlet to compare against genuine, these seem very good quality. Not yet tested in a plane, but at home next to air-conditioning the noise-cancellation worked really well. They seem well made and are very comfortable. I purchased on eBay from 'goldennugget888' and have had correspondence with him regrding the fact that these are non-genuine, despite his assurances to the contrary prior to posting the items. He states he is based in Malaysia and is selling them for a friend in Hong Kong. He 'truly' also believed these to be genuine and has immediately offered to refund my money. However, I have decided that as I need to purchase two pair, these seem pretty good and if I get a decent longevity from them, it saves a lot of further mucking around with packaging and posting, further risk etc.

It also appears that unlike many other products which you can buy genuine through the right channels for substantial discounts due to heavy margins, Bose don't give very great margin to their distributors, which is why you don't see genuine product discounted more than a few dollars.

Just thought I would let you know.

Thanks for the update medvis. I noticed that some feedback on Ebay were in regard to fakes. Also not sure about the 'new' claims on some items. Maybe I will buy from Bose Melbourne as they have the limited edition Blue for $350 which is the cheapest I have seen plus claim back the tax at the airport.

Similar to earlier comments on this thread I agree that over the ear noise cancelling better sometimes (eg long daylight flights when awake) and in-ear units better sometime (eg when in seat bed lying on side).

Separately as a Bose tip, a few weeks back I was planning to buy a new set of QC15 to replace my failed 9 year old Quiet Comfort II (battery leaked). The price in Sydney for QC15 was AUD399, the price in USA was USD299, but the tradein price to swap failed QCII with new QC15 was USD129. Paid my USD129 and the new QC15 are very good.

I was told not to use active noise cancellation headphoones on flights with noise cancellation headphones supplied as it may damage my headphones. Any experience or advice on this?

I cannot understand how it could damage the headphones. While some airline's use a third "pin" or "prong" on a connector to provide DC power to their NC headphones (so they don't have to use batteries like in the Base headphones), so long as you don't manage to connect to that power socket then you can't damage the headphones - unless the airline's system is faulty in some way. And note that the power pin is a different size to the normal audio sockets (3.5mm or 1/8th inch for audio).

as NM has pointed out, dont stick try to use the third socket that supplies the power to the NC headphones. Its a non-standard size anyhow so you shouldn't be able to fit standard headphone pins into there.
