Did a 1700 SYD-MEL recently.

FA came around with drinks cart and I said I would wait for tea/coffee. I was then told that due to SYD-MEL being a short sector, tea/coffee would not be offered.

Is this a new low in service standards?

I've been told this on a 25 minute SYD-CBR sector, but on anything longer than that I find this pretty poor. Even Virgin can manage to serve tea & coffee on SYD-MEL.

That is not the norm and I would suggest it is the result of a disengaged crew and would certainly report it. That really isn't good enough

Was it a particularly turbulent flight where service time would have been restricted by the captain?

It depends how busy they are at the time.

I have seen them provide tea/coffeee early in the dinner service if they have served the rows around the cart and have to wait for some reason before moving cart. Other times they come back with the tea/coffee after the cart service has finished.

We don't always get tea and coffee on MEL - ADL flights and nothing to do with turbulence. It's all I usually want on these flights as I eat if necessary in the lounge, so it's annoying.

According to an FA on our 1930 SYD-MEL flight a few weeks ago flights 'after lunch' no longer receive the hot drinks service.

The passenger near us who asked about it clearly wasn't happy and the FA got them a tea from the galley, but didn't look pleased about it.

Well even TT, for an added price, are more than happy to heat up meat pies or brew a coffee so I don't see why QF can't!

I've encountered 'sorry no hot drinks' before in Y on evening or late afternoon flights.

Sometimes the FA will offer to bring me a cup of tea from J, sometimes not. TBH the issue doesn't really worry me.

There was tea and coffee served today from Mel to syd on a 2:30pm departure.

I really dislike the 'food offerings' and don't have them so a cup of tea is nice.

As a non drinker..... the tea is the highlight of my flights, luckily have only ever done that route twice...

AFAIK it's been that way for years. At least on week days after 4pm when the trolleys are loaded up with complimentary wine and beer as well as other cold drinks.

Yeah I haven't seen tea and coffee in late afternoon or evening in a long time
