Have I missed something or is now standard to get a meal and nothing else on a 8 hour flight, took QF51 and apart from crisps and a coffee on request there was nothing after 3 hours into the flight! Not a big fan of the pizza in Y but have to wonder why there is nothing served in Business, is this really a premium experience?

You are supposed to order from the menu again if you want something else. you can have anything they have left

Someone else recently mentioned that no "real" snacks were available in J on a DXB-MEL flight. Instead of getting free QF flights the management of QF should really fly on CX to see how it's done...

I read that and did not believe it, the menu did say I could have chips, chocolate or fruit at any time but it felt VERY cheap, might have to reconsider future choices, especially after being lied to about the late departure "due to the late arrival of the aircraft", whilst technically correct as the aircraft was not at the gate at boarding time, the fact it had been sitting on the ground for five hours seemed to be irrelevant!

Apparently a half full cabin left a packet of chips, I must be lucky.

last time I had another of the big plates as my refreshment.

They should probably mention it on the menu and if I was you I would be sending a complaint to customer care if nothing else was available.

I agree that QF snacks are rubbish, in First class on MEL-DXB they had macarons and that was about it. Nothing like a sandwich etc

Ouch that's not good.... For 8 hour flight I'd expect and meal and refreshment

On F from MEL-DXB are you able to order another main plate as a refreshment? Or even from the J menu (if anything is left over)?

I look forward to the pizza landing into HKG :)

In J, QF rarely have anything left after the meal service (despite the menu saying you can have something else later). I have learnt to get something put aside if I am going to have a snack later in the flight.

not just business class - first class too on a recent flight to Hong kong had nothing left except for the steak sarnie. They managed to 'find' a dessert left over fomr the main meal service.

but i was surprised to find a fairly comprehensive continental breakfast offering on the return QF128 (a good half page worth of stuff to choose from).

I was in business on this flight a few weeks ago. I dont remember having any issues with meals during the flight.

The crew are supposed to proactively offer from what is left late in the flight but may have devolved to simply not offering.

My flight to HKG earlier this month January this happened as "the flight was too short".

As per Pleb Status post, you need to be proactive.

I did ask about an 1½ hours out, and all that was left was a 'terrine'.

I will be flying on Qantas (to HK) for the first time ever in April, but now starting to think I should have booked Cathay instead. :(

On a similar length J flight (QF23 SYD-BKK, full cabin) recently there was a refreshment of a terrine or schnitzel roll, both of which were perfectly adequate - surprised that SIN wouldn't be the same.

Did you ask or were you offered?

I don;t thinks it's route related, AFAIK FA's are apparently supposed to offer on all Oz-BKK/SIN/HKG - but I am thinking as time goes on some crews are simply not doing so.

The menu I had was not dissimilar to this one:

No mention of any refreshment choice and my snack options were listed as chips, chocolates or macaroons. With the eat on Q in place I suspect overall their food bills have dropped considerably! No issues with that, but someone has had a thought that the non eat on Q customers rejects that are loaded become the defacto refreshment, maybe loading a few more of the likely candidates and mentioning on the menu it's on offer later in the flight may help things.

FWIW my entree and main were great, but things went downhill at the anorexic cheese plate. The other thing I noticed were the movie choices had a lot less of the new releases, could just be the time of year when studios hold back things for the bit Boxing Day blast.

I flew J QF51 on Sunday and had preordered the schnitzel roll (don't ask). I was offered a second serve about 2 hours out from Singapore. Up to that point I hadn't realised that was available. Maybe something printed on the menu would help.
Off topic, but at the end of the flight the cabin staff came round and thanked every pax individually for flying qantas. Nice touch.

There was plenty of food available when I recently had to fly JQ to SIN. Lunch after take off (3 courses, 4 choices of main) and a substantial hot snack before landing (3 choices inc steak sandwich).
