No more inflight duty free with QF after 31 Dec 2017

The only time I have bought a double pack of 1L spirits, the 2 for $xx included the double packs and scanned at the reduced price. Does OP of photo have a higher res version with T&Cs visible?

The "T&Cs" provided by the cashier was that I had mis-interpreted the offer - he stated it was only the single bottles bought as a pair which was valid for the offer. The twin pack scanned at the value provided on the label on the bottom left of the shelf.

He was obviously well-versed because he didn't skip a beat as he efficiently then rattled off the extras of credit card fee and "would you like to purchase a carrier?".

Regards,

BD

I've only purchased duty free from Qantas a couple of times, and they've always been small purchases. The last thing I bought was a $20 pair of sunglasses. These broke a soon time after, and I had to return them by mail for a replacement. The postage alone which Qantas had to pay for would have been more than $20 - so this was not a profitable sale for them!

I can understand why they would want to get rid of duty free, but to be honest I'm surprised they wouldn't keep it on flights to places like Hong Kong, China & Japan. QF sold a LOT of duty free on my last HKG-SYD flight.

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I will sorely miss this! For me it's a part of the "romance" of the journey. Board, champers, browse the duty free catalogue, fill in the order form. Sad, for me in any case.

Bear in mind that the Bombay Sappphire bought DF is the real 47% deal which is sold in most of the world, except here in Oz where we can only get the 40% watered down rubbish. Martinis made with the former are infinitely better. That alone is worth something of a price premium.

That said, I picked up the aforementioned twin pack for NZD60 at ZQN earlier this week after preordering online, so happy all round!

Tongue in cheek that you mention "a bit of a profit", I hope, as you are "really" not supposed to resell those items, as they don't have the duty/GST levied on them.
Personally, if I was doing something like that, I would not mention too widely about that due fact you are going it.
Edit: to add, I don't dare nowadays look up in the duty free zoo at AKL/MEL/SYD/ADL airports anymore.
Head down, straight to immi processing and smartgate processing.

Maybe he's a collector and just it sold it later after sitting on the shelf for a while.

I think they have been winding down for a while as the last two times I have tried to buy something on board, they didn’t have any on board.

Oh, this is very sad news! Qantas has been selling these awesome "Pay 75$ for a 100$ value" gift cards for Epiqure. I've recently always buying as much of their stock as they had because that's an easy 25% saving for doing absolutely nothing. Shame, I will miss those! :(

Just recently returned from Singapore on Qantas, no duty free available, no magazine in seat pocket

btw on QF95 the other day (the 789) there was no mention of duty free that I heard and no mag in the seat back pocket. Guess they decided to get rid of it early.. or at the very least do it on the QT.

On the return, QF94 had no mag but the IFE had it and they did talk about duty free sales as per normal.

just a data point

I'm surprised that no one mentioned buying planes off the in-flight catalogue. I buy a plane whenever I fly with an airline I've never been on before, and I feel that the only way to buy a legit plane is to buy from in-flight magazine, not from the internet?!

Would be better if QF could still sell inflight DF and either deliver it to your preferred location or give it to you when you land.

Yes there is some IT magic involved but it would save on carry all the stock onboard.

This is how Travel Service / SmartWings (Czech) airline does it. You fill in a PDF form, then you send them the form, telling them your flight number, then they give it to you during the flight.

Don't even need IT ......

Just flew MEL-SIN yesterday and the inflight shopping catalogue was absent from my flight too.

It depends. Often the airlines are reselling models made by one of the couple of major manufacturers. Those you can pick up at the big model airplane stores (there's one at Amsterdam Schipol for example). Sometimes airline models can be good quality, but also sometimes not as good as you'll get from a reputable manufacturer.

I wonder what they do with all their stock? Maybe it's only on consignment?

My friend works for Qantas and she told me there was a huge sale of duty free items for staff just before Christmas at Mascot. She didn’t bother buying anything as the line stretched half way around the building.
