As far as I'm aware it's not that P1 are exempt from it but that you get a soft landing to WP. SImilar to the OP who got a soft landing to SG from WP.
Whoops, I was meant to type 1200 x3 (or whatever their "rolling average" threshold over 3 years is/was).
I'm not sure what the soft landing requirements are/were, I remember some time ago that there was discussion about it due to meeting the SG "average" but not the WP one (in the case of a WP, not P1).
Things might have and probably have changed now though...
 
We all know there are IT issues when waiting for points or SCs to come through. I just think that 2 weeks is far too short a period, especially if you have flights close to that anniversary date. I got downgraded just 2 weeks after my anniversary date. They sent out the gold card and now they'll have to send out the platinum card. At least VA give themselves a 1 month review period, which may help to minimise these sorts of things from happening.
 
A recent thread here suggests that you won’t get the platinum card without repeatedly asking for it 😗
I didn't have to ask for mine but it did take about six weeks for them to replace the gold card they sent me prematurely.
 
it did happen to me but that was some time ago. I think it was your experience I thinking of recently, if so, I was incorrect.
Of course now with the electronic "card" in the app on your phone the only thing you really need the card for is the premium call number on the back.
But that would be on the old card anyway.
 
The card is still useful when some airlines want to see it physically. Also helpful if wanting OWE benefits but travelling using a different FF programme.
 
I'll give the new card 4 weeks before I start chasing it up. Not flying a OneWorld airline again until January.

There has never been, IIRC, a comp for P1. It has been a very hard line set by QF.. but yes, there has been many instances of a soft landing to WP from P1 even with zero activity. Of course this practice is subject to change at any time by QF as we all know.

Just a comment on the "gall" of QFF to offer the 120k to retain WP. I strongly suspect this is more of a "left hand" and "right hand" thing. It's likely now automated or part automated to make the offer to points retain, but that probably either does not know or does not take into account pending points claims.

I mean in many ways *IF* (big huge massive IF) the 120k points offer to retain (each member's value of this will vary) was consistent to all, then that would be better (again people's view on the value of such offers will vary) than the seemingly random system of comps that used to exist and seems to have pretty much gone the way of the dodo in favour of a pay to retain offer.

At any rate IMO the offer is just made on the basis of what existed in the account at the time, and probably nothing to do with any pending claim or points not yet credited .
 
Thanks I am aware of that but the success with it seems to be quite variable.
I did get matched to platinum with AZ (ST because I wanted to access AF lounges). gold with EY and gold with O6 (*A because I wanted to access TG lounges) a few years ago but since then I haven't had a need for any other status. Don't want to squander the opportunity.

Non Australian (non Qantas) lounges still often call for the physical card, or at least have done for me. Especially in USA.

Still some around but sadly, most;y status challenges today.

Now you mention it I have a vague recollection of being asked for a card at F check in once. I can't remember if it was MH or TG.
They were quite rude. Looked me up and down as if I obviously wasn't flying in F and asked "Do you have status or something?".
Maybe there were no flights with an F cabin leaving at the time.

MH_fan, I understand your anger, but am still a bit confused by your stance.

You have been a member of AFF for ten years but you still harbour that notion of airlines rewarding "loyalty"??

And in an arena where there are two suppliers, you maintain Plat status with both Qantas AND their main enemy, Virgin. Forgive me, but that seems to be the exact opposite of "loyalty". What am I misunderstanding here??
 
Normally a “comp”is not an automatic event but requires human intervention before the anniversary date. Those wishing a comp should 131313 with a humble cap in hand and a story/evidence to back up their request - like prior loyalty, future bookings, fanciful ones et

if not done prior to Ann date, then likely this will happen.
