I booked a redemption ticket online, JQ from OOL-CNS and then TL (Airnorth) CNS-GVE for flight today, just arrived CNS earlier this morning and was informed by the "lounge guardian" that had I not arrived on the JQ flight, I would not have qualified for lounge entry prior to the CNS-GVE sector, as I was ticketed on the TL flight and not on the QF codeshare.
Speaking with premium res. it seems that redemption seats are ticketed on the flight operators metal.
I sent some feedback to QF that this should change or that they should put a prominent notice on the redemption flight availability page "That lounge access is not available with redemption tickets on TL.

Seems odd, because if I used points in points pay, I would be ticketed as QF flight and I would qualify for lounge access?

I will wait to see the response and advise accordingly.

I believe this is correct for all partner awards. A few users have posted before about similar dilemmas on award EK codeshares, which are ticketed with EK flight numbers rendering QC members ineligible to access QF's own lounges.

When you make the booking it will show you that you are booked on TLxx_ CNS/GOV not QFxx_.

Classic awards are always booked under the operating carrier's flight number. Have experienced this on award tickets BCN/DXB, BKK/DOH & SYD/AKL.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

One of the poor anomalies of the Qantas lounge access rules. It should not matter if awards are booked on QF codeshare or operating carrier's flight number.

As a Platinum the same rules don't apply but Qantas should really update lounge access rules.

I can guarantee you that if they were to update the access rules for Qantas Club, the price would be adjusted accordingly.

Why would they update price accordingly?

If I book a Qantas award on QF SYD-BKK it costs 28,000 points + ~$160 and on EK it costs 28,000 QFF points + ~$160. Qantas makes money off both but only has lounge access for Qantas Club members on the QF flight. That to me is wrong and totally unjustifiable considering the partnership between the 2.

Because they will get charged for the lounge access by the operating carrier, that is why the price would get adjusted accordingly.

If a Qantas club member books a QF/EK award they should get lounge access. The charge for the Qantas lounge will go to Qantas club.

Qantas is still making money off both awards but not providing lounge access. Nice tidy profit on the fuel surcharges too. No providing lounge access is wrong regardless of how you look at it.

The poor value of QANTAS Club compared with Gold is one of the reasons why I'd like to keep Gold or above status even though that may not be realistic.
