Just looking at booking J redemption tickets to Hamilton Island from Melbourne for later in the year. I can get the A330 from MEL/SYD which would be short but nice, then the site says, "Please Note: Seating will be in Premium Economy from Sydney to Hamilton Island." Does means the same fitout as biz except no business service, or does it mean an older jet?

I may be wrong but my understanding is QF doesn't fly SYD-Hamilton Island–only JQ (A320) which wouldn't have Business class.

What dates are you looking at? My dummy booking shows J all the way. You might have an aircraft that wouldn't have been refitted by that day, so I imagine it would be Y+ seats but J service.

I think the OP is travelling DJ as this is in the Velocity forum ;)

HTI should have J, the only places that dont:

Albury
Ballina
broome
Coffs harbour
Emerald
Gladstone
hervey bay
Karratha
launceston
Maroochydore
Mildura
Newman
port hedland
port macquarie
Proserpine
Rockhampton

Thanks for that. Maybe they are still calling it PE on the booking engine. Now if I can just find a flight in the mid-year school holidays........ Might have a look at Perth, but I don't think it a kid's holiday destination. It does have direct A330's from Melbourne which is a nice way of getting there as far as travelling goes.

Try different flights/routes. My HTI flights have been a mixture of 700s and 800s so perhaps that's why they class it as PE. When are the 700s being refitted? If you select well, you'll end up with an 800 with J seating and PE service.

I can vouch for HTI as being a nice holiday spot. Most of my visits as business, but I've taken the family sailing and also just to the resort. Personally, grabbing a bareboat charter cat for a week is a fabulous family holiday and virtually no experience and no license required. Sunsail are based on HTI but there are better bargains on the mainland.

EDIT Forgot to mention, there is no better spot than the HI Yacht Club for afternoon happy hour..........

NICE. Can't see any kid's in those shots! I'll have another look at alternative routing, but the 6900 points plus pay thing doesn't allow for anything but a scheduled single-booking flight without stopovers (even if that stopover is just a connection with two different flght numbers).

Yes but if that SYD-HTI connection is a 737-800, you will get PE in the J seating.

EDIT: If you are unfamiliar with the DJ site, click on the flight number and it will tell you the proposed aircraft type.

I just did a test booking for June and the funny part of it is that if you do a Brisbane connection, rather than Sydney, you get business class right through to HTI. The only disappointment is you won't get an A330.

This looks like a system bug, or else DJ, (like most discerning well heeled elites) consider Brisbane far more important than Sydney ;)

I booked a business class PER-DPS yesterday and there was a mixture of Business and Premium Economy through the entire booking process. For example:

Terms and Conditions said:
This is our fully flexible Velocity Redemption Business fare.
...
For date and time changes, you may only make a change to another Premium Economy Velocity Redemption Fare of the same or greater value.

(The rest of the terms and conditions are equally well written, complete with typos and copy-paste errors.)
