Dear all - I recently returned from an overseas trip where my partner and I flew from LHR to JFK with Qantas partner airline Aer Lingus. FF points were not immediately awarded to either of us so we both made a claim for missing points - my partner was awarded his points but I was not. Upon questioning this Qantas admitted that a colleague had made an error and the points should not have been awarded. This was followed by an email to myself stating that they would not revoke my partners FF points - acknowledging this to be a colleague error - but would also NOT award me the same error!! Has anyone suffered a similar discrepancy?? Love to hear if I can resolve this one!

The machinations of the QF system for partner airline rewards are not for us mere mortals to understand, as evidenced by many threads.

If the points were awarded in error (I.e a non-earning fare bucket), I would stop pestering QFF about it. The risk is that your friend who did receive the points in error will have them removed.

Yes - agree this is a possibility though Qantas has stated in writing they will not revoke. Its the level of inconsistency I am at a loss to understand. I was told on several occasion in the On Line Chat sessions I would be awarded the points - then the email arrived to say sorry for the confusion and inconsistencies but this is how it is - he benefited from an error and you don't!
Really is it that much of a hardship to Qantas to just let me have my few thousand points.....

If you have the transcript of the online chats, you may be able to refer QFF to that.

However at the end of the day, take the points posting in error as a bonus, as if the fare isn't an eligible fare you wouldn't have been entitled to the points.

For future reference, eligible fare buckets can be found here

Try to look at it from QF's perspective. They made an error by crediting unearned points; as an act of goodwill, they haven't corrected their error but you're asking them to knowingly make the error again.

If you really want consistency and for justice to be done, ask your partner to return the points to which they're not entitled. If it were me, I'd be happy for my partner getting some unearned points and I'd let it go.

... which is why it is often said here that Qantas is consistently inconsistent. :)

Be thankful for the freebie points. Many threads here are about people not getting points to which they are totally entitled.

If the points were truly awarded in error, then just treat it as a windfall gain, and let it lie.

No good can come of trying to make them duplicate the error...

This does bring up a can of worms so to speak.
If a colleague of the staff member the OP spoke to at QFF has admitted an error in allowing the points, does this mean that a person does vet who does and who does not get Qpoints, or QF SC.
I had always "assumed" that a computer system did the vetting as to Qpoints and QF SC earn from partners. Especially if the booking was made with a partner airline, and the data was transferred to Qpoints, I thought that a computer system vetted what was and what was eligible earn.
If a person can make an error in allowing points for one person, even in error, wow, scary.
Wasn't there a double check for preventing of such "error"?

For me, the question is whether or not you are indeed entitled to the points - which you may be. Qantas does advertise on their website that you can earn points for Aer Lingus flights, provided you're booked in an eligible fare class.

What was the fare class? The following classes are eligible for Qantas points: L, S, R, W, K, M, N, V, Y, B, H, C, D & J.

I didn’t know Aer Lingus flew LHR to JFK? Was it via Ireland?

I flew Glasgow to Dublin, on Aer Lingus, EI flight number, quoted QFF number, which also appeared on the boarding pass. 2 days later, flight appeared on my QFF points statement but no points or SC. put it down to fare purchased. Have had similar issues with other partner airlines, depends what fare you booked etc. E.G. fares booked through a travel agent carry a diiferent class of booking and wont attract points.

Go with the win you've had.
