I've just noticed that Virgin have changed the rules around complimentary fare upgrades in the platinum benefit.

Previously you could upgrade on long haul flights however now its short international haul only. Weird because I upgrade my flight to Hong kong in march from Sydney.

Definitely no change!

Initially the benefit was just domestic however in June 2016 this was expanded to Short Haul and Trans Tasman flights.

Never knew they worked to NZ.

Most years I let them expire. SYD-PER were the only times I bothered on the A330.

What do Freedom fares to NZ run in sales, does anyone know?

But all 737 I guess there, so only a SYD-Cairns type flight duration so no big whoopee.

I've used one upgrade from BNE-AKL but the remaining domestically.

With NZ fares often freedom is more expensive than business saver..

Yesterday I booked BNE-CHC the prices were:

Getaway : $225 (booked this)
Freedom : $549
Business : $495 ($54 cheaper than a freedom)

Obviously this changes (depending on route and times) and sometimes it's about a $150-200 difference between the Freedom (cheaper) and Business.
