Following on from this now closed thread Redeeming Hertz Points

I can't seem to find any way to actually redeem my points. No matter what dates or locations in Australia I pick I always get the following message

To be honest, the Hertz website is generally terrible to use, but I can't seem to find a way to find out when I could possibly use my points. I've tried picking the cheapest car at random future dates at various locations around Australia but always the same. Are these Hertz points just a scam and unredeemable?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I tried to use the Hertz points in Australia for more than 2 years and never have anything available. It was a waste of time.

I just used my Hertz points for a weeks rental in Tassie, pickup and return to LST, 2 weeks ago, and booked 2 weeks prior.
Ive found the availability with redeeming pretty good imo.

Have you tried changing your car selection? different pickup cities?

I’m renting with hertz on regular basis under my company’s corporate rate and sometimes use points for personal leisure rentals. In my experience their points are quite easy to use online, especially if renting in Australia, on quite a wide range of cars. Different story trying to use them overseas but it’s not relevant these days anyway.

My favourite use is 1 week rental from either Prestige or Supercars range, which is probably the best value use of points (for me at least). It’s worth to note that for some reason Hertz didn’t list the Audi Q7 under Prestige category, instead they put it under Standard Premium SUV. This also can be good value for long term rental.

I do rent mostly from major airports which may effect the availability but I’ve also done some occasional rentals from smaller city locations using points with no issues. If you like send me PM with dates and location of your rentals and I’ll have a look from my end.

Perhaps my assumptions are wrong, but after not seeing much tried single day rentals several months into the future in both Perth and Darwin. Selecting the cheapest vehicle and could never find availability. Should I be looking at more expensive cars to be able to use points? Is there an easy way to just show when I can use them or for what car category?

Cheers...I'll take you up on that offer.

So big thanks to @boomy for helping me out. Turns out to be user error by me. Since it wasn't obvious to me, I'll outline the solution. Essentially you need to get it to not show pre-paid rates. No where (as far as I saw) on the site does it tell you that you need to do this.

So first step when searching you obviously select use points

Now on stage two all it shows by default are the prepaid rates. What I totally missed even when told that I should be looking for post-paid is this highlighted bit

Click on that and suddenly at the final stage I had availability for using my points. So I encountered that well known ID10T error :)

It seems that Hertz Australia has updated the site to match Hertz US. Does anyone know how to get it to quote a non-prepaid rate?

I have tried the above method with success on the old website. The new Hertz website (presumably the botched Accenture job) has no such link.

Picked a random date and location. I get the following with using default options. Very strange indeed.

I managed to get it working through Hertz UK. The book now prices displayed after selecting the 'use points' box are pay at counter, rewards options available on the review page. Hopefully they'll update the AU website to get it working again.

edit: The important bit is to switch region to UK (EN|GB), rather than the website URL

I've never had any success online but a phone call has always sorted it out. I should really do something with my 9000 points.....
