No 1st class seats offerred for QFF Gold members now?

Hi all,
Went to book 2 x 1st class seats for QF94 (LAX-MEL) for next year (have booked 1st class for this flight previously on points). Logged onto the Qantas App (Android version) 353 days in advance of flight (I am QFF Gold) . Only options displayed were Business, Prem Economy and Economy - no 1st class offered (plane is an A380 so definitely 1st class available). Rang my friend (QF employee) who has access to the flight loads and they confirmed there were still 14 x 1st class seats available on the flight.

Ended up booking 2 x Business Class on points, but I was a bit puzzled as to why no 1st class seats were on offer - When I booked 1st class on points on this flight previously (2019), I was QFF Platinum and I booked it via a laptop (not via the Qantas app). Could it be 1st class on points is now only availale for Platinum members? Or the Qantas app does not have all the functionality? Thoughts?

If 14 F available, according to OP's mate, no F seats have been allocated or purchased by anyone.

I did book 353 days in advance - checked as soon as the flight tix were available. And current flight loads still say there are 14 x 1st class seats available (See attached. The 2 taken business seats are the ones I ended up booking on points instead).

Gold definitely gets access to F seats, we were looking at QF94 for January and saw plenty.

To anyone searching on the website for that particular date at that particular time of search, regardless of status.
This is the most probable.

QF have not made award seats available. Simple as that. Anecdotal evidence does not support the notion that Gold do not get access to F reward seats.

It is a call by yield management. It does not make a lot of sense specially in the current travel industry climate, but a choice QF have made at this point.

Sounds like I just just got unlucky with my flight - oh well....I can settle for Business

I tried that also. Got the dreaded
Upgrade not available
Fare type not eligible

Seems I just got a bit unlucky with the flight!

It's not possible to upgrade to F from a Classic Flight Reward booking.

In any case, upgrading from an award ticket costs nearly as many points as booking the seat outright, and upgrades are not guaranteed.

I should probably clarify.....given my experience with no 1st class seats available on the flight I was after, I was wondering if gold members still had access to1st class seats 353 days in advance.

from the sounds of it, I think the answer is ‘yes’, just not for the flight I selected .
