We have only yet opened the 1965 Penfolds 707. It was surprisingly drinkable. Dark red brick colour, soft perfume nose, slightly sweet?, balanced, long finish. All a bit in awe that it would survive that long. Obviously had been re-corked, but the bottle is the Penfolds embossed one "This bottle always remains the property of Penfolds Wines Pty Ltd and must not be filled by any other person"
I think I will keep the empty bottle, nice memories of a good client..

Highlights from Christmas lunch. The first growth was amazing, probably should have waited another 5-8 years though…

Merry Xmas and HNY to all winos. Last group tastings just before Chrissy. A bit late but none the less. Across the day.

There’s some very good Sparkling Shiraz around, but this on Xmas eve was an absolute star.. loads of richness, dark and red fruits. Wonderful long finish, Disgorged 2023, 100% Shiraz on this one. Epic wine! And a gorgeous Chenin from the old world..

Very enjoyable. Excellent fruit, great winemaking and looking forward to the remaining bottles in a couple of years. For those who love cool climate Chardonnay and top tier winemaking. Just a hint of matchstick then lemon pith, salty cashews, grapefruit, spicy oak.
