Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

The cap was sound. Feedback from the winemaker (on another bottle of that vintage) was that she was comfortable with the stylistic variation. Apparently in that year they used an oak variation which may have had an effect.

I think the oddity of my bottle was accentuated at our tasting by all the other wines being stylistically similar to each other.

Should add that Howard Park have offered to replace the faulty bottle with either the same of another vintage.

I won’t name the winery,it happened few years ago in a couple of vintages , the winery might have mistreated the used barrel and it found Brett all over the wine , the wine released to the public and the feedback aren’t that positive, I also agree with the other reason therealtma Brough up, which is oxidated. there’s one more reason that I can think so, which is high acidity, but Howard park is not known as a high acidity wine?

What did you think?

I liked it, but perhaps a little simple. Lacked the wow factor. I have one bottle left and a little undecided on when to drink. I'm thinking try in a couple of years and hope for some further development.
It was my first of 3, it was not as good as the ‘10 Moppa but I was happy enough with it. I drank it over about 4 hours and it got better with each glass. Agreed there was no wow factor, I will try another in about 12 months I think, and probably open the bottle late morning or lunchtime.

I think the Rod & Spur is the winner of the ‘12 Rockford blends - but both will be behind the Rifle Range - though only a feeling as I have not had one since release

Have you (or anyone on AFF) tried The ‘12 Rifle Range recently?

Looking through CellarTracker I cracked my first of 5 in April 2017. No formal notes, but I rated it highly and put my drinking window as 2015 to 2035. I do recall this drinking exceptionally well when young.
Thanks

Was the Digby any good Daver? I'm really tempted to expand into English sparkling.

I picked this up on special at Dan's for $36. At that price it's good. Full price I think is closer to $55. It certainly was a decent sparkling wine and we enjoyed it. At the discounted price, it's an easy yes. At full price, there are better options out there. If you're looking for explore then I'd say yes, worth spending full price to see what it's about.

I should add the first bottle I bought from Dan's was stuffed. Cork had failed and was flat. Returned it and received this. Both were disgorged April 2016.

After a horrible weather day in PERfect (23.5C and sunny), this was opened tonight. Glad I stood it up last night. Heck of a lot of sediment. Cork in perfect condition. Ahh...this is what old wine is all about. When the cork gods have been kind and the wine is in a perfect place. Absolutely singing. The old vine Shiraz is only released at six years of age. To anyone visiting PERfect (or locals) and heading down to Margs, a slight detour to taste at Australian Wines and Winery | Peel Estate Wines | Wine Tastings is worthwhile. Nothing fancy about the tasting room, but I'm a big fan of the wines.

Last day before the restrictions applies again.
Start off with the ironheart, it’s very dark colour, not much aroma at first, great mix of berries and black currants , this is still young ,tannins like black tea running along with some vanilla oak, a long finish ,still very primary.
The redhead is overflowed with herbs and spices, some whole bunch characters, mix red and black fruits, if I taste this blind I might mistaken this as the torzi Matthews frost dodger. Both is these wines needs another decade.

Got it for $10 during recent DM clearance sale.
I know Fox Creek do mean strait Shiraz but this is first time I’m trying one of their blends. Was expecting decent quaffer but this JSM is so much more. Seriously good drop and a bargain even at $25 RRP.
