Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

A friend put on a Howard Park Abercombie vertical last night. That's their top of the wozza Cabernet. It truly is an outstanding and elegant wine. We're lucky enough that one of the members of my group works for Howard Park too. So his insights were fantastic. I also love their old label.

You usually post comments so I am jumping the gun.... but keen to hear about the '12 as that is the only vintage of this I have.

The host is writing them up and will post them to auswine. I'll share the link here when its up. All vintages were good (although the '98 was pretty bretty). The '12 showed very well. There really wasn't a bad wine. Some better than others, but they're all in the category of greatness.

We drank the 02 Magnum at the end of last year, it was very very nice.

Yeah it was showing very well last night too. Apparently not the greatest of vintages but even the guy from Howard Park was impressed with how it was showing.

This ain't no abercrombie or john riddoch but it is delicious and very good value at $17 after lots of discounts, down from $55. Gorgeous colour, medium bodied, cherries on the nose and in the mouth. I'm assuming it will get even better with a few years more...

First time trying something from PoCW, pretty interesting for their entry level bottle - intense nose, brambles, spice, red fruits... pretty decent finish that lingers. Haven't tried a pinot/shiraz blend before either.

Probably should refrain from cracking open each new bottle that comes through the door, but oh well.

Also, yes not a very practical stem.

Very nice! How was it? Trying to decide if I should crack mine open or let them rest for a bit
It was my third of 6, they are delicious and I see no need to cellar for a long time. The last 3 will have 12 months between them though.

NZ Pinot Noir weekend.

First pair comes from Mount Difficulty.
Consumed 1/2 bottle of each over two days.

Interesting difference in alcohol between the two vintages: 2016 14.5% while 2017 “only” 13.5%, yet the 16 tasted more fruity and light while the 17 was more spicy and full bodied.

Despite being different I couldn’t pick a favourite, both were very good in their own style.
