Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

@Steady
what was the Rockford Riesling like? Had a v disappointing black shiraz a couple of weeks ago
I think I prefer the Vine Vale young. (But only based on a small sample size) The Hand Picked is nice young, and with age in my opinion.

What disgorge was the disappointing black Shiraz you had?

Thanks, I am yet to try their riesling!

I think it was the 2012. We had our 2011(? It was a year older) the same night which blew it away. May have been a bottle fault, but there was still some bubble? Did we hold them too long? I am no expert!

I’m no expert either but I would not think ‘12 was too old. Did you contact them about it?

I have been drinking them about 3 years from disgorge and so far so good I have had some much older BS at the Stonewall room and at long table lunches and they have been divine

not sure, it wasn’t mine.
Good to know, as I was hoping my older one wasn’t a fluke (we’ve still another)

This (2006 vintage) is in a really good place at the moment with plenty of life left in it. Got four more bottles remaining, two of those being magnums. I'd imagine drink now and over the next ten years. Very impressed with this. Paid $25/bottle and $60 for the magnums. Even at today's asking price for current release of just under $40, you wouldn't be unhappy.

Tonight, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.

When in Mexico, drink Mexican wine. This was from Valle De Guadalupe which is in NE Mexico - ie. the N end of Baja California. For such a dry and low latitude region, it produces good wine.

Phwoar, it brings back some good memories! About 15 years ago I had been at a conference in San Diego, after which I stuck around for the following weekend and a Canadian friend flew down and we had a very nice time that included, inter alia, some wine-tasting in the Valle De Guadalupe ;):cool:.

This was very nice. Smooth as silk and juicy. The blend intrigued me, so that’s partly why I chose it - although the description on the wine list (in an excellent interactive iPad app) indicated Zinfandel in the mix, but not according to the label.

Moderate ABV from such a region indicates class wine-making.
