Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

How many people do you have at your events? Does everyone bring a bottle?

The event like last night everyone brings a bottle. We try to limit to a max of 12 people. Otherwise the pours start getting small and we don't want to be there all night (well we do, but not a smart move on a school night). We will occasionally organise something where one member will provide the lost (ie our Riesling tasting) and everyone just chips in a bit to cover costs. My experience is people have been extremely generous with the wines they are willing to share.

Personally, I spit and swallow. On an event like last night I would have consumed about half a bottle and spat a bit more than half a bottle.

At general public wine tastings, eg the Coonawarra Wine Road Show thats coming up, I'll spit 99% of what goes into my mouth.

Based on your lifetime SCs are you ever home?
Of course I am worried that there is some vinegar in my lot so we may need to get a group together as testers.
Yattarna corks were not the best and I did get the old Grange tested and re corked.
If all else fails we could go champagne to forget any vinegar taste.

I'm free until 31 Aug. - depart on a 7-week DONE5 on 1 Sept. Strangely, my new FF year starts on 1 Sept. ;):D. So, ready when you are to do the wine sorting :p

I could be interested, July or August suits me, I am not flying anywhere until 22 August,

Soon as I saw this post I was on the phone to Cove saying I could lend some wine tasting assistance.

Some intriguing reds in the past fortnight.

An interesting shiraz blend from northern Vic. Bought 2 years ago whilst visiting a friend in Wangarratta. The addition of the mondeuse adds a deep colour and tannins, yet still quite fruity in flavour. Aging well, have another bottle to open in 2016

A really nice shiraz from the Grampians/Victoria. So smooth, berry infused, rich red colour. Way to easy to drink!

Bought this recently from the 2000pt bonus for Margaret River wines from Epiqure. A bit early to drink, perhaps, tis still a baby from 2011. Very ripe fruits driving the taste. Great mouthfeel with enough astringency to make you want to sit up and beg for more. That's ok. Still have 5 more bottles to enjoy over the next 10 years :D

The SMC is a nice drink. I've been lucky to go to a few BB events and sample from the family cellar.

Lucky you! Had the opportunity to drive around the region, nibbling on the cheeses. Enjoyed the cellar door at Brown and well presented location. So many people went straight to the Patricia and the Moscato, which is a pity as the range is good and covers a lot of grape territory

Still have one left at home, same vintage :)
Stayed a few times at Lindenwarrah just across the road from Brown Brothers. A nice and affordable hotel, great base for touring the fine wineries in the area.

The winery is a long term favourite and their banquet type events like Queens birthday weekend are fabulous. And a great chance to sample wines you might not usually try. Love their Montepulciano too.

Havn't been to the Rutherglen area for a few years but Brown Bros always seem to have something a bit "different".

By memory St Leonards is also an interesting place to visit.

That's a bit like saying McLaren Vale is in the Barossa, given Milawa is 60 odd km away.

Sunday afternoon/evening with friends. Wasnt sure how the Chateau Guirard would hold up being from 1979, but turns out, rather well!

Bought this purely on recommendation - for $20 it is outstanding bargain. Shiraz/cabernet/tempranillo blend from Bendigo region.
Dark colour, rich earthy nose, full flavoured and soft in the mouth. A bit more investigation tells me that the tempranillo is from Spain/Portugal, so great to see the Old World meet the New in such a quaffable way.

Interesting. Another Shiraz/tempranillo blend that I think falls into the same category as this is the one from Aravina Estate. Also $20 I believe. http://www.aravinaestate.com/documents/2012Aravinashiraztemp1113.pdf
