I'm a bit partial to the glenlivet. I've got a cabinet full of JW but I think I'll be using that as fuel in my car so. Can replace it with glenlivet!

+1 to the Laphroaig. Not to everyone's taste though. At the moment I'm loving the 15 year old Dalwhinnie which is so inexpensive (I paid $70 for a litre at MEL Duty Free so it has to be less elsewhere.) you might call it cheap.

I concur with a wee dram of Dalwhinnie. It's a great sip and bought another bottle two weeks at SYD duty free for the same price.

Best make sure you like Laphroaig a LOT before you buy it in cask strength form. It really is the single most deadly whiskey (of quality) I've ever tried. Laphroaig 10 or the quarter cask are my "standard everyday" bottles, and I still find the cask strength hard to swallow.... ;)

I brought home a bottle of the 18yo Laphroaig, and that is veeeery nice.

Lagavulin and Ardberg good choices also... if you like Islay. Me, oh yes. Not to everyone's taste, though.

Agree re A'bundah. It's very classy and relatively easy to drink for a cask strength, ie 60% booze.... great looking bottle, too.

Re Johnnie Walker, I'm of the opinion that the Blue is well overpriced. The Gold can be great, but I have found that the bottles I've had have been of variable quality.... I believe that the GREEN is exceptional value for money.... for all you single malt snobs (I'm almost one), this is blend of single malts, nothing else in there.....

lol at JW being decent scotch.

as suggested, single malt is the only way to go. Speyside or Highland single malts are wonderful. as you are purchasing tax free get a good 20 or 30 yo bottle. Glenfiddich, Glenfarclas, Glenmorangie are all good places to start.

A'bundah is wonderful and if you like your scotch strong, try some Laphroaig 'Cask Strength' if you can find it - its labelled cask strength.

lol

I just purchased a bottle of 21yo Glenfiddich and a bottle of 20yo Highland Park to add to the collection. Happy days.
