Just spoke to my father who used it again and said the SMS only took 20 seconds to arrive, so all appears to be working nicely for him now.

Hi New member here, first post.

Im hating the NGCI. I fly out of perth a lot and the new kiosks just dont work. I ended up missing a flight because I tried to use the new kiosks yet again. By the time I gave up and went to the service desk, my flight had closed...5 minutes early.

With QF taking away the Silver / QC check in......Im doomed........

These new kiosks work just like the old kiosks, so really nothing different there (just a different build, but same back-end).

For your flight closing 5min early, i find this very hard to believe. As i assume you didn't have any checked-in baggage the kiosks shut at -15min before the flight departs. If you had bags it would shut off at exactly -30min. Also if it was the latter example the service desk operator would've easily been able to 'force' the baggage acceptance from about -26min to -30min (especially for a PER flight).

The kiosks may be the same back end but they were broken. The 'help' was too busy talking about the grand final (1st) to actually help.
as for checking in my bags, I arrived 5 minutes at the service desk before my flight closed but QF wouldnt accept it. maybe my watch was slow... but they wouldnt accept my bag (or a few others who also had problems with the kiosks)
Suffice to say, I flew Virgin that day.

How were they 'broken'?

So QF didn't even offer to put you on to the next avail flight and you lost your ticket?

as soon as you touched the screen it just went into thinking mode and didnt come out of it. this has happened twice now. the first time, it just needed to be reset but no help the second time. Perth is a hub of confusion at the moment.

There were no more flights available that day...it was the beginning of school holidays and the grand final. Qantas would still let me on the plane but without my luggage and of course I couldnt leave my luggage or send it on the next flight. There was a woman behind me in line with the same problem who started getting loud and argumentative to the point where qantas staff were told to 'turn their backs' to us. one staff member actually came up to me and apologised but they was still nothing she could do.

Priority boarding

I just watched the NGCI videos. The Platinum video says priority boarding for all Plats, but the Gold one doesn't.

I haven't seen this posted before.

It seems to be part of the recent set of changes. Apparently platinum gets priority domestic boarding and gold doesn't. I'll be testing this tonight.

It has been discussed, not in this thread though...

Pretty sure it was J and WP... Makes sense for domestic ops.

Didn't think they'd rolled out priority boarding yet though...

But do let us know :)

Did yesterday at PER, no biggie except I couldn't peel the overweight sticker apart from its backing.

A QF lady was quickly there to help.

Priority baggage from PER without tags doesn't work at places like CBR where they rely on the visible tags.

Did appreciate the priority security screening queue and was through quickly.

All I know is that the qantas website says I get priority domestic boarding. Obviously it didn't happen last night but I did shoulder a gold out of the way ;)

It was mentioned at some point it would be rolling out later... I'm hoping for an AA styled system myself :)

Good on you for shouldering that pesky gold out of the way ;)

Just a copy and paste from another thread:

I'm suprised at a few of the comments over the past few days regarding the FF changes and about the NGCI.

IMO the removal of a priority queue for QC and Silver members is not really a big issue, the majority of silvers (atleast 80%) of them don't even use the priority queues at the moment, this also goes for QC members. They don't generally travel enough to know any better and just join the Y bag drop queue. Also what people have to know, QC is that exactly, a paid membership to access the QANTAS Club, and that's what QF seems to be getting back to. A paid lounge membership and that's it, none of this extra perks, just the QC access.

For the NGCI, i have spoken to alot of people that travel to PER that have come over to MEL for the weekend or day and atleast 96% of them love the new check-in procedures and ask as to why MEL still doesn't have it. They clearly see that it is faster and say it's a simple process once they know what they are doing. This is also including MANY WP's and SG FF'ers, they don't want to wait in a queue to drop off a bag, and don't care if they don't speak to a CSA. They just want to get to their destination/lounge. The ones that don't like the self service are generally the 'older' generation that feel obliged to tell everyone that they have status.

BTW not looking forward to the new baggage allowances in a check-in way, but excess baggage will be alot cheaper in some circumstances. Instead of $10 per kg over 23kgs, it will be $30 per extra item up to 23kgs.

That will be good. I'll look forward to them doing exactly the same with the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. After all that is a program about flying and that's it, none of this extra perks, just the flying stuff. Of course, iirc, priority check in for Qantas club members predated priority check in for status. But it can only be a benefit to remove these cross over perks.
 :D

Putting joking aside. I can't find the excess baggage rate you quote. This page here has higher numbers:
Fly - Baggage - Additional Baggage

But I'm not sure those are correct or relevant. Are the new excess baggages rates published somewhere

Read it on some news article, it was quoted from a QF spokeswomen. Don't remember which one it was though. That's the best of my knowledge on the rates.

edit: here it is, http://www.news.com.au/travel/news/...age-restrictions/story-e6frfq80-1225935780471
It is a NoNews.com article though :p

Thanks, it is hard to know what information has been updated and what information hasn't been updated on the website.

Pre-purchase additional luggage, I guess Australia's leading premium airline is one step closer to not leading and not being premium.

I notice that the NGCI enabled cards seem to have a slightly different design to those sent out to us trial users.

The trial cards don't have the shadow of the 'roo in the background, well ; not that I can see anyway.
