Next Generation Check In

Priority doesn't mean "delay everyone elses just so the F stuff comes out first".

Given the size of a container, there's probably one that contains mixed F/J and then J/Priority luggage, if they even bother breaking it down that much.

I'd say so.

When I landed on QF10 in Melbourne yesterday morning, my J tagged bags were *first* onto the carousel, out before any of the F or priority bags. I dropped off my bags in LHR about 4 hours before departure. All bags after mine were a mix of F/J with a couple of random untagged bags thrown in.

I was quite happy with that actually, on my last trip (J on QF12 into Sydney) my bags were pretty much last.

Mrs H is not particularly impressed with NGCI at MEL tonight. She is PSQP (She'll be SG in July when I get to PG!)

Forty minutes to complete check in. The system didn't recognise her tags and there were hundreds in the same boat. Apparently it was chaos.

Just to cap things off the food had all but disappeared in the QP.

At what stage can QF be called an LCC?

They must have fiddled with the system since I used it on Wednesday, as it worked perfectly for me then.

mmm wonder if Friday night at 6:00PM might have something to do with it? ...but you would think they would be able to cope.

Invaluable lesson for me.......carry on only!:)

No issues at MEL on friday at all.

The only time a bag tag is not recognised is if you have a q-tag and paper tag on the bag. The barcode on the paper bag tag is ripped or crushed. The paper bag tag is under the bag. Or if there still is old 'bingo' stubs on the bag from pervious flights.

LCC? Travel Tiger.

Just trying to give out the facts and not meant to sound rude.

Point taken.

I'll tell Mrs H she didn't wait 40 minutes to check in with total chaos around her. I'm certain you were standing right next to her.

You have just lost all credibility in my eyes.

Just trying to give out the reality. Don't mean to sound rude!

Incidentally Mrs H is experienced in NGCI. She only really travels to PER, and has been part of the NGCI program from day one.

Used NGCI 3 times in the last two weeks to Mel and to and from perth...

it worked perfectly... like took me about 20-30 seconds to check in and my bags turned up...

I just don't like how you can't change your seat at the kiosk...

Ok we get the point, NGCI isn't for you. And QF is not a LCC.

The poster did not say that that they used NGCI from Melbourne. Re read the post. To and from Perth (so Syd) and to Melbourne.

Actually the point is that Mrs H was at MEL at 6:00 PM on Friday and NGCI did not work properly. As a PSQP she has had any rights to priority check in removed.

As QFCSA pointed out there were no issues at MEL. Mrs H is pleased that she only imagined the chaos around her and that really she didn't have to wait 40 mins to complete the check in process. I didn't need a phone to understand her response when I told her that she had only imagined the problems with NGCI in Melbourne last night. Hopefully she will be a touch calmer when she returns from Perth.

Maybe I should have placed a smiley after my LCC comment, it was not quite literal. I was attempting to place in perspective the QF decline in service and the introduction of enhancements that devalue the QF brand. I'm sure NGCI is great when it works, but when it doesn't it is a problem for PS members who can no longer use priority check in.

Yeah i never used it from Melbourne... they only just had it installed so she probably caught it in the first week of operation on there...

I love it...

As for changing seats at the kiosk I don't like it cause it makes the process less slick...

I would assume QFCSA has access to stats and info on when there have been problems, but a clarifying statement on that would be helpful. I’m sure they didn’t mean to cause offence.

And good info on reasons why a Q-tag wouldn’t be recognised, luckily when I used it I had taken everything off other than the Q-tag.

Yes quite right samh004, I was a bit over the top with my response. However it is a little frustrating to hear that everything is OK when it clearly was not.

To further clarify Mrs H had no additional tags, paper or otherwise, on her bag. Just the Q Tag. It was not recognised.

She is a seasoned traveler - her PS status does not suggest this, but unlike me she gave up on Qantas a long time ago for her 2-3 trips to Europe a year.

Well I had my first use of NGCI yesterday at MEL.Worked well but there were only 3 pax total using them at the time.Bag even arrived in BNE!
But Tony I agree with you-others I have spoken to have had problems that supposedly do not exist with the system-in fact I had another woman on my PNR-long story-and it took 3 goes before the bag drop would accept it.

I don’t doubt she’s not a seasoned traveller with your 91% to LTG, I’d have expected you not to leave her at home all the time ;)

Hopefully one bad experience doesn’t sour the whole thing, I thought I got quite lucky with how well it worked out, but expect while it’s still rolling out this wont always be the case.

LOL It is the basis of a good relationship!! We never see each other! :)

If NGCI can be made to work effectively I think it will speed up the process. However when it does go wrong things need to be sorted out quickly. 40 minutes to complete check in is appalling......and to cap it all there was no food left in the QP. (6 PM on a Friday!)

Mrs H will be SG at the end of July (courtesy of PG) so she'll be able to use the priority lines. (She'll have to maintain SG herself from then on. I'll hit LTG in October and from then on will only maintain platinum and check out some other airlines for some of my international travel.)

Lol, didn't work for me this morning SYD > BNE, they found the bag 2 hrs later =) so it's waiting for me at the hotel now...

Just a follow up to my experience.First case out in BNE was for the woman on my PNR-NB,infrequent flyer.my case was about a thitd of the way just in front of a whole lot of cases with RFID tags on.So guess it doesn't matter loosing priority tags.:D
