Hi all,

(I did a brief search but didn't turn up much. Apologies if it's already been covered.)

I'm heading up to Newcastle on 28th Dec and am looking for a hotel reasonably close (walking distance) to the corner of King and Union St.
(I may or may not be driving up there to see a certain one-hit wonder, who may or may not be playing at "Panthers" that night... ;))

Not looking for something too expensive (it'll basically just be a place to crash), but walking distance from Panthers is desirable.

So far I've come up with:
1) Hotel Ibis (500m away). $129/room unrestricted rate ($119 pre-paid, but no cancellations...)
2) Travelodge (300m away). $159/room, includes buffet brekky.

Leaning towards the Travelodge atm as it looks nicer, and it seems like good value with the brekky.

Other option is the Quest Apartments which I can get for just under $160 through work...though it looks like they may be booked out on the 28th.

Any other recommendations? Looking for 2 rooms. Thanks. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

I have stayed at the Ibis (don't look shocked everyone) and it was simple... little pod bathroom/shower thing. Breakfast was ok but nothing special. If its just a place to sleep then I would take the cheaper option and get breakfast in a greasy spoon...

I just couldn't resist looking up who is playing at Panthers on the 28th.

Febs, your money could certainly be well spent elsewhere.

Ice, Ice Baby...... :p ;)

$28/ticket...can't complain!

Ha...thing is...we know it'll be bad...that's half the reason we're going!

I actually used to be a huge fan (when I was 8 or 9...). There's about 12 of us going up (so far). Most of us used to like him (or rather, that one song ;)) back in the day. Now I guess it's just for the fun of it. Sure, it's a 5hr return trip for one song...but meh. It'll be fun. :D

Thanks guys. Spoke to a few people who said the Travelodge is nicer. Included brekky is for 2...so seems like the best value. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

I guess I shouldn't throw stones.... I paid to see Bon Jovi in the late 80's, including a total of about 7 hours on a bus for the return trip from Bathurst

Have fun.

Febs, Febs, Febs. 12 in two rooms sounds like a whole lot of fun. ;) Behave now! :p

For what it's worth, my folks stayed at the Ibis recently (prior to a 6am flight) and said it was basic but clean and cheap. If it's just a bed you're after, then it's probably a good deal.

You'll be needing this. ;)
