I guess it's a little bit hard to call myself a newbie, although I've spent all of my time in the QF section - until now. Anyway, life is changing, and instead of running in and between Australia and Asia, it looks like I'll soon be heading for more pastures rather than more tarmacs. Flying patterns would probably be once or twice AU east coast - SIN and a few AU dom flights every year. Although I would have my +1 with me on all flights.

Hence my question here about status earnings and family pooling. Say if I fly SQ full fare (eligible booking classes) economy SYD/MEL-SIN return twice a year, that would be 240 SC per person (being 60 one-way, x2 for return, then x2 for 2 trips). With family pooling, does that mean they can be combined so 1 person would have 480 SC? And with the minimum eligible flights, would each person need to fly it himself/herself, or can they be pooled as well?

Correct on the SCs
Eligible flights need to be done by the account holder (VA codes on partner metal count but not vice versa)

Yes, that's correct - with family pooling, one person would end up with 480 SCs from those flights. But no, you can't pool eligible sectors - and (you're probably already aware of this, but just in case), you would need to book the flights through VA for them to count as eligible sectors (i.e. must have a VA flight number) - if you book directly with SQ, you will earn SCs and points but not eligible sectors.

ETA: Andye beat me to it :)
