Platinum
In July I obtained Platinum for the first time. I've just booked a First Sydney to Hong Kong for August next year and selected pay later - don't intend paying until May as I would rather have the use of money for the next 6 months. They were first saver fares and I thought I better take them now in case they weren't available for my dates later.

Anyway the booking engine has assigned me 3A and 3F - I would rather have 2A and 3A - is this the sort of thing you can phone the Platinum line and request, or should I wait until I have paid in May and hope it hasn't gone? I don't like to be pushy:)

Absoluteley... give them a call and they should be able to sort it out easily.

Definitely worth the call. Always found them to be most helpful.

Nope if you use pay later you can't select seats until you actually pay, which is fair enough. I was actually surprised to seats allocated at all. Ok will make my first ever call and see how it goes....I don't like 1A. Too near the coat cupboard.

dont Pay Later Bookings need to be settled in 72 hours? and are subject to price fluctuations also (ie if the First Savers sell you have to buy a higher fare class)

The pay later option guarantees you a seat in that specific booking class (within its terms and conditions), although the taxes and the price for the booking classes can both change. That is, you can get the seat later, but there's no guarantee on price.

I thought the fare was fixed and only taxes were subject to change.

I used the pay later option for 2 business class fares to Fiji. When I checked a few months later the fare had more than doubled in price. Decided to cancel.

That's not good :( I've used pay later a few times and not had any problems. There is about 2.5K difference between First and First Saver x 2, so a significant saving. Anyway I phoned the platinum line and had a really nice helpful person who changed 3 F to 2 A for me, so now I have my favourite seats. Actually I am not sure if I can call them "favourite", when I have only flown the A380 once before, but I intend for them to become my usual seats on it in F, and I will just have to throw a Feper if anyone else takes them. :)

Hi Flying Mermaid. What sort of dollars were the sale fare in F ??
Thanks
Return SYD Hong Kong was $9580. Zuji have it cheaper at about $9120, but then I would have to pay for it now, so I figured for $50 I can keep the seats at a first saver rate and then when I am ready to pay have a look around at what the fares are then.

I would ring now.

I thought you only had 72 hours to make payment.

IMHO I would make a call and confirm it all.

No - this is what the confirmation says " Your booking has been placed on hold. Payment is due by midnight 19 August, 2013 ." I guess because they can vary everything, except the actual class, they don't mind keeping it on hold?

That is intereting, I also assumed that pay later meant you had 72 or 48 hours to pay. In fact I am sure I have had this before where it will expire if not paid within a couple of days, but that price is locked in.

There must be two kinds of "pay-later" systems, can anyone clarify? Thanks.

Possibly a sale fare? I have had that when purchasing a sale fare - it gives you the pay later option, but it is only a brief window. This is not a sale fare but a First saver, which I understand books as A - discount first rather than F.
