New Zealand Travel Bubble Announcement

A little bit hypocritical of her, I think. Says a lot about her credibility.

Absolutely. I didn’t think much of her before this, but I think with this Ardern has again not thought things through. .

Have to disagree. I’d have her representing me in a heartbeat

Because tabloid media told you she’s doing a good job?

Not what I said either.... odd how my post has been changed.

No. The only rubbish I read is posts like that on this thread 😂

Sure 🙄. Your somewhat bizarre views are well known, but I’d love to know why you think that NZ is in a position to attack Australian on requiring inbound quarantine.

I did note reading the other day WA has a 14 day mandatory quarantine requirement for arrivals to WA if the traveller had been to NZ in the past 14 days.

Even if WA has open borders (ie SA is very low risk with no quarantine requirement), say you were in NZ 14 days ago but in SA for the last 13 days and then decided to cross the border, then 14-day mandatory quarantine is required (for day 14 to 27 since leaving NZ?!)

So if/when this one way bubble and a traveller from NZ wants to go to WA quarantine free, the person needs to holiday for 14 days in a ‘safe’ State/Territory.

Sorry Jacinda but when will you open your borders.
Ardern in a media interview I heard today suggested NZ would have it’s borders closed for most of 2021 - She wants her people to be vaccinated and likewise for the world - She also suggested that a travel bubble with Australia is unlikely because states continue to close their borders.

Fair enough. But interesting that she seemed to forget to order a vaccine in a timely manner... the population of New Zealand could have easily been vaccinated in a very short period, however the country looks set to be cutoff from the world for an extremely long period of time.

Well the NZ PM sounds much like AHPPC / National Cabinet - borders closed for most of 2021.

I read the NZ CMO/CHO was a member of AHPPC and I do wonder how often he attends and his voting status.

I think it was Dr Caroline McElnay from NZ

Oh ok. I assumed it was Dr Ashley Bloomfield.

Edit: maybe I read incorrect info about NZ involvement in AHPPC, according to health.gov.au

AHPPC is comprised of all state and territory Chief Health Officers and is chaired by the Australian Chief Medical Officer.

Australia Is at least being consistent.3 day lockdown when QLD had a UK mutation and now a 3 day cessation of NZ travel bubble when South African mutation found there.Sorry Jacinda but when will you open your borders.

No Oz isn't being consistent. When the one-way bubble was started it was said to use the Australian hot spot definition. Now NZ has had 1 case in the last 2 months, and bubble is suspended. That is considerably less than the previously announced criteria.

If that is the threshold going forward, any prospect of bubble is dead until sars cov2 is vanquished. 😟

You are as strong as the weakest link in the chain during this pandemic. As long as states squabble there is no hope for (limited) international travel bubbles.

In some ways, the countries going through largest outbreaks will ultimately emerge as the biggest success on the other side when coming out of covid times.

If you quote someone do the whole quote for context.I said Australia did the same 3 day lockdown when QLD had a case-1 case -of the UK mutation.NZ has 1 case of the equally more infective South African mutation so got the same treatmebnt as the Australian States.Consistency.

Problem is both Australia and NZ are struggling with hotel quarantine places and don't want to have stranded citizens in the other country if the bubble suddenly bursts, call me a pessimist but I don't see a two way trans-tasman bubble in place anytime soon (and certainly not by the March timeline that NZ talked about before).

My original post was about the NZ PM and my opinion that she is doing a good job as PM, nothing to do with inbound quarantine. So your post is "somewhat bizarre" 😂 Anyway thats political so wont be saying any more.

Because of the Australian Federal Government's inability to work / control / influence the states, NZ now considering doing state by state deals.

What could possibly go wrong 😂

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern mulls travel bubble arrangement with individual Australian states

New Zealand's Prime Minister says she is considering forming trans-Tasman travel bubbles directly with Australian states instead of a nationwide agreement.

Who would actually be game to travel overseas with these bubbles? Open one second, closed the next. It's bad enough with the states locking people out, as that makes any sort of travel, even to only regional areas, an iffy prospect.

And how could that possibly work, given that the Australian border is a Federal area of responsibility.

While NZ can certainly say who is allowed into the country without quarantine, but unless the Australian federal government exempt travel to NZ from the international travel ban, even a quarantine free travel with a few Australian states wouldn't mean a lot as you won't be allowed to travel in the first place.
