It's too bad it's only one-way at the moment, but it's a good sign.

Hopefully travel in the other direction isn't too far away.

Not a bubble. The exemption from quarantine on arrival in Australia is only for NSW and NT from 16 October 2020, and only for eligible travellers who have not been in a hot-spot within the past 14 days. Hot-spot hasn't been defined - is this just Auckland, or whole of North Island? Unclear from the announcement if only Australians can enter quarantine-free or if extended to include NZers (who currently cannot enter Australia unless resident there)?

Quarantine-free entry to NZ from Australia (excluding any hot spots) won't be announced until after the NZ election on 16 October 2020 (at the earliest), with hints of January 2021. Still only NZers (plus exemptions) allowed to enter NZ.

I read travellers from NZ have to come from a non-hotspot (in the article I read hotspot was defined as 3 locally acquired over a 3-day rolling average). As with quick reporting the details will come in a media release I guess this means 1 per day, but it could just as easily mean 9 over 3 days.

If it's not two way it's hardly a bubble.
As mentioned in another thread, a Claytons Bubble.

Also, what is the Fed Government’s definition of a hotspot, for Australia?

A Clayton's bubble.

Nice bit of spin, but in practice it is no different to what exists between UK and NZ. Or even Singapore and NZ (with the exception of a COVID test on arrival)

Yes. Maybe we got our hopes up for a full bubble, but we only received glass-half-empty. Just need to wait for top-ups from Scomo.

I've had a business trip to Auckland booked for November with the hope of this bubble materialising. I'd say its a 50/50 chance right now... Doesn't help that Qantas are cancelling NZ bound segments of bookings randomly stating its a network change, but neglecting to remove the flight from the booking engines.

They (kiwis) still have to isolate for 14 days after returning home...kinda makes it certain it will be a looong trip.
There wont be tourists popping back and forward for a few days away.

NZ news is full of people saying this current bubble is going to help Aus tourism. As desperate as I am to get away from family for a holiday, I am not keen on a long weekend in Sydney followed by a $3000 14 day isolation stay. I have talked to a few people who are thinking of sending a staff member over for a month or so and then placing them in quarantine as part of their business. Haven't heard how many employees are interested.

Update: without notice, Qantas has cancelled the rest of my booking. I wonder what recourse I'll have if the travel bubble materialises and Qantas have cancelled my trip? I was on hold for an hour or som with Qantas and gave up - I've issued a formal complaint via the Qantas feedback portal - that should take a couple of months for them to acknowledge. I wonder if I can pursue them legally for lost business? Has anyone done this sort of thing before? Assuming I won't see my points or fees/taxes for another 3 months...

QF had the points back into my account within 2-3 days after trip cancellation. Maybe just give it a few days.
Points are the least of my worries right now. Have nearly 200,000 points sitting in my account.
