Jacinda Adern just held a press conference, Four new confirmed cases in one family, acquired from an unknown source (no overseas travel), so community transmission in NZ, no where is immune.

NZ held up as gold standard, so will be interesting to see if they can identify the cause and quash the spread. On the plus side at least they cant blame NSW.

Apparently one had symptoms for 5 days and Auckland is going to NZ level 3 restrictions for 3 days from noon tomorrow.

Details on the positive cases in New Zealnd
By Luke Cooper19:45
Dr Ashley Bloomfield said the first infection was identified in a person in their 50s who presented to a local GP and tested positive twice.

Three of six other family members of the person also tested positive for COVID-19.

The original case has no history of overseas travel, so all close contacts and work colleagues across multiple workplaces have been tested and placed into isolation.

The exact source of the infection remains unknown.

Mass gatherings will once again be limited to 100 people as of tomorrow for the whole of New Zealand.
With Auckland at level 3, the rest of the nation will move to level 2.
Social distancing measures will also apply, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said.
It has been 102 days since New Zealand had recorded a case of coronavirus.

So all the people saying there is asymptomatic spread bubbling away everywhere Just out of sight may be right if wasn’t a quarantine breach.

If it could happen to NZ, watch out SA, WA, Tassie etc

Awful news, they tried so hard to get rid of it...

I could well be, though there are other possibilities such as through people involved with air and sea freight or a slip up with the people involved with returning travellers and international essential workers. We will have to see what the contact tracing identifies.

I would not be surprised to see them do some antibody testing if the contact tracing does not turn up anything.

I think it’s like day 101 or 102. If I heard correctly Ardern just launched her re-election campaign on day 100.

It says 102 in the report I posted above.

Breaking: Auckland goes back into lockdown with four new cases in New Zealand

New Zealand has confirmed four new cases of COVID-19 in Auckland after over 100 days of the community remaining virus-free.

The city will now return to level three restrictions at midday tomorrow for three days. The rest of the country will go into level two restrictions as a precautionary measure

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern told reporters in Wellington that it was the first positive case in the county in over 100 days that was not in a managed isolation facility.

"Given we haven’t identified the original source case we are expecting that there will be more cases," she said.

New Zealand’s Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield said they the virus had been acquired from an unknown source and that another case of community transmission was “inevitable”.
“This is a tricky virus,” Dr Bloomfield said.

Hope this doesn’t end up being a quarantine breach.

“ Earlier today, Bloomfield said there was one new Covid-19 in managed isolation - a man in his 20s who arrived in New Zealand on July 30 from Melbourne.

He said the man tested negative on day 3 but went on to test positive on day 12.
The man had been in managed isolation at the Grand Millennium and has now been transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.”

The Kiwis have a lot more Covid 19 cases from incoming international travellers than just that one.

The Kiwis have a steady stream of incoming international travellers from a variety of countries with Covid19.

I'm sure it will come out somehow they were in some contact from a Victorian...

Looks like New Zealand is going back into lockdown. Stage 3 alert for Auckland, Stage 2 for rest of NZ.
4 cases, apparently the same family, has appeared in Auckland. Lockdown from noon tomorrow for 3 days while they work out where the contract tracing.

Seems to be a possible quarantine breach.

As per my post above there have been at least 7 pax within the infectious period if it was a quarantine related breach.

And if a quarantine breach, there there may have been and probably were, others in-between transmitting the virus as there were no obvious initial contacts. So you then go back in time and the numbers of possible international travellers as patient 0 multiply.

Then apart from that there is a possible source from aircrew and ships crews for both freighters as well as passenger aircraft.

Wow NZ panic buyers make ours look timid  :(

Panic buying hits Auckland supermarkets

Supermarkets aren’t even closing but shoppers are still going nuts in Auckland after New Zealand confirmed four new coronavirus cases.

Despite New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern imploring people not to rush to supermarkets when she announced the return of coronavirus and restrictions in a press conference Monday night, people have not heeded warnings.

Residents immediately started posting photos and videos to social media
queues outside shopping centres after news four COVID-19 cases had been diagnosed in one family with no known source.

Seeing the panic buying for just 3 days of lockdown is why I recently bought a freezer and plan on buying one thing extra per week. Even if a friend needs something, which happened in March, we don't have to line up with the crazies like Auckland last night.

Watched the NZ PM press conference. The level of clarity in her announcements puts all of our governments to shame.
She is lucky in that she has control over the whole country and everything in it as far as processes go. Federal Government is only able to send an overarching message and then each state gets to do its own little power play. And then there is council. Merde. Its easy to send a clear message when you dont have to kowtow to all flavours of politics and especially personalities and egos.
