....like the picture being displayed around town....

Looks like about 10 jetways... but this "artists impression" has Tiger aircraft at Gates 3 and 9... and QANTAS and Virgin Blue mixed up on the rest...

"That's going to cause a little confusion...."

:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

Seems to work at ADL, CBR must be different ;)

Don't be disappointed, any terminal serving any airline leaving CBR is good...

That's right.. keep knocking the place.. we want to keep it to ourselves anyway...

BWAHAHAHAHAHA ! I just realised that remark was made by someone from... Melbourne!!! ;)

"Now that's funny right there!"

I actually quite like Canberra (and have been looking forward to the new terminal), but your sardonic retort leaves me a little confused.

How about providing a link to a decent resolution copy of the pic you are talking about, so those who don't live in Canberra can see what is being proposed for CBR.

Sorry Mate! No offence meant.... Most cities have their "standard" criticisms.. Melbourne included! Just giving it back to munitalP....;)

I'll try to find an online version of the picture... In fact I hope to find the whole set as there is a series of three.. sort of a Yesterday/Today/Tomorrow thing.. and the "Yesterday" shot is of a Low wing Junkers monoplane being fuelled.. presumably here in Canberra in the 1930's.... Great photo!

See if this works...

There are better pictures on the canberra airport website... various angles etc... Sorru.. don't know how to link to
the album there...

..but here is that Junkers!

Funny how the Snow family commissioned pictures show a lot of green space, its the very thing that has been taken away at a great rate of knots since the airport was sold, Aviation is very much playing second fiddle these days.

Interesting extensions and what not.

So is CBR finally going to become a true international terminal or what? I would've thought you would need to kill off quite a few residents in the local area before that would happen. (Or at least completely soundproof their abodes)

Actually I believe CBR is still suitable for 24 hour use. There are however people who want to build residences under the flight path. They would be in NSW and stuff up the times available for flying.

At the open day earlier this year I was told that the AP management was negotiating with an airline for international flights. It was a LCC but no names were mentioned. Could be a good way to have cheap positioning flights.

A few updates from the Canberra Airport people at the Qantas Travel Show in CBR today:

•The Qantas terminal will be ready for use from 30 September.

•The top level of the terminal is dedicated to Qantas lounges. The Qantas Club and Business Lounge are supposedly roughly the same size as their equivalents in SYD Domestic. There is a new Chairman's Lounge also but nothing much was said about that.

•Qantas is making the decision as to when to move their services into the new terminal, and is expected to move around 7-14 October.

•The Next Generation Checkin won't be available from the time the terminal opens, but rather will be retrofitted some time next year after SYD & MEL.

•Q400 passengers will still have to brave the CBR winter cold by walking across the tarmac from aircraft to terminal, but they'll have a covered walkway for part of the trip. At least they're not using a silly bus to drive people the 20m from the aircraft to the terminal as in SYD.

•The new Virgin / Tiger terminal to be built where the current Qantas terminal stands has international facilities (customs, immigration, duty free etc). Word is that an announcement about the first International services (most likely to NZ) will be made within 12 months.
