New Sheraton for Melbourne

The Sheraton Melbourne is now available to book.
A quick check of various dates shows it to be around the same price of The Westin.

I rarely follow the openings of new hotels with that much detail.

Do SPG/Sheraton etc normally have any "opening specials" or is it just business as usual ?

I am looking to move my hotel stays from Hilton to SPG mainly due to the ability to transfer Starwood points to SQ :D I have Gold with SPG which is OK to ease the pain of moving

Well 3 more SPG brands are coming into Melbourne!

Four Points will open on the Docklands while Aloft will open up on Lonsdale St, marking aloft's foray into Melbourne, I think element could do very well in Melbourne also. Earlier reports stated that Four Points would be apart of the Altus development, however it looks like it has changed with now SPG opting for a Waterfront City location.

Discussion for W Melbourne is still on-going however planning complications may mean W Melbourne might need to find another location.

Melbourne would have;

- Westin Melbourne
- Sheraton Melbourne
- Four Points Melbourne
- Aloft Melbourne

- W Melbourne (pending approval)

They have the Experience Sheraton rate starting at $260 with Free Internet, buffet Breakfast and double SPG points up until around September.
I have looked but can not find if the double points are before status bonus applied or after.
I would think before.

Thanks and yes probably before but double SPG points is always welcome as the transfer to SQ is quite good

I just booked this and cancelled my room at the Westin ($365) :)

The program has changed slightly so that now each country issues its own package.
For Australia the package is now called Star Privilege Pacific, and covers Australia, New Caledonia, and Fiji.
Cost per annum is $309.
You get the usual membership card which gives you 50% off the price of two dining.
Also 10% discount off most accommodation rates, but not all.

Get 2 free bottle of wine certificates.
4 discount vouchers for selected hotels.
4 50% off dining vouchers for group up to 8.
1 50% off dining voucher for group up to 4.
1 complimentary breakfast, lunch, or dinner voucher for 2. Either buffet, or two course menu if buffet not offered.
4 Late Check Out or Upgrade Offers.
5 One Time Use guest Certificates.

If you use Starwood Hotels should be fairly easy to pay for the package by the savings on 4 or 5 meals.

Just renewed for 12 months for $199, (Previous membership ran out in May 2013) as I'm about to holiday in Fiji so can use the 50% dining at the Sheraton and Westin.

I always have my car with me in Melbourne so annoying to see that they don't have valet or even on site parking.

Parking Information

  • Parking Nearby (59 AUD per day)

Also no club lounge? I was hoping a lounge may put pressure on the Westin to maybe give out some drink vouchers or something.

Still more competition and choice is always welcome.

Be careful enquiring about this. I enquired once, and literally got hounded by the salesperson at least 5 times a day until I eventually told her to stop harassing me.

Would pay to recheck your booking rate against what they might be offering now.
I am booked for the Sheraton first week of April and saw last night the rate had dropped $10 to $250.
Quickly changed the booking :)

On other dates I also see the Westin down to around $238 a night (Pre Paid) which nearly had me tempted but I want flexibility and no deposit required.

The double points is on the Experience Sheraton Package.
I did click the "Super Hot Opening Offer" book now link on the main page and it came up as $244 and a Hot Escape Rate.
I would think it is bit of an error, but then again it is a cheaper rate than the "Experience Sheraton" for the same time period.

Currently sitting in an Executive Suite having booked the Experience Sheraton rate @ $250 p/n for a Traditional Room.
Received a rock star welcome, must be one of if not the first Platinum SPG member to check in?

Will write a review once home tomorrow night.

Enjoy.

Even though I've lost my status with Starwood I was treated very well and loved my stay there last night.

I think I will review my upcoming hotel bookings in Melbourne

Contemplating a stay here next week. Can anyone confirm that the gym/swimming facilities are open? What are the opening hours? Range of equipment? Any sauna or steam room? Ta.
