Yeah, I am not getting it either. the level of privacy is amazing though.... 1-2-1 is better than some airlines in F class -

The seats look amazingly BIG- and wide..... WOW.

I hate to be a killjoy, but how will this work economically? If you replace a 2+3+2 with a 1+2+1, assuming the pitch remains the same you have just increased the cost recovery by a multiple of 7/4. Does that mean a business class seat on SIA will be double the price of competing airlines? There has to be some economic logic that I'm missing.....

They aren't replacing 2-3-2 with 1-2-1 ;) SQ 777s mostly have 2-2-2 in business class (the oldest ones do indeed have 2-3-2 but the new a/c is not replacing these but instead replaces the 772ER and 747 on the applicable routes). Also the way they have set up the seat the pitch reduces without reducing bed length, thus can fit more rows in the same space.

Lastly, SQ is pretty good at managing yield (consistently one of the most profitable airlines in the world), and yes fares have gone up on these flights by about 20% (and USD$500 surcharge on RTW tickets per flight) and award costs (using Kris Flyer) have roughly doubled on 77W flights.
