Pictures of SQ's new seats etc on the new 777 going into service December. Supposedly the A380 will be similar, but with some further improvements.

first class 35" width, 23" PTV, new version of Kris World (includes office software!), height varying table, in seat stowage of carry-on

business class 1-2-1 forward facing layout (not herringbone), 30" width, 15.4" PTV, height varying table, in seat stowage of carry-on

economy class, 10.6" PTV, in seat power

Looks pretty good - can't wait to try it out.

will be interesting to know which routes they intend flying the new 777 on.

First ones are supposed to be Paris and Zurich in November or December. There are quite a few other routes that will get it once enough a/c are delivered.

On a 777 flight next May from SIN to FCO, was hoping it might have been that sector.

the FCO-BCN route is one flagged for the new a/c, I just don't know when it will get them (or if plans change in the meantime).

Thanks.

with the number of 777 variants that SQ fly, it's somewhat confusing trying to figure out which one is currently doing the SIN-FCO sector. I was hoping to try and determine what J class seat to request and whether it was their sleeper variety or the old-style ones.

currently it is 777-200ER, 2-class fitted with spacebeds (and wisemen 3000 avod ife)

if you can bring up a seatmap it is easy to tell the version

2-3-2 equals 777-300, may be 2 or 3 class, no spacebed or skysuite (ie regional seat)
2-2-2 equals 777-200ER, if has 3 class then no spacebed or skysuite, if 2 class then spacebed

On the 747, all a/c bar 1 have spacebed, and all a/c have skysuite in F. The 1 non-spacebed 747 usually is seen on SIN-BKK and SIN-ICN routes.

Thanks for the info on how to work it out.

Well done to SQ for launching a new product.

However, it doesn't look too revolutionary to me. Looks like a really wide version of their existing F seats. Their J class now looks better with flat beds that are really wide too.

Is it just me that thinks that they might be too wide?

35" is lots of space and I think that when I sit I like to use the arm-rests and at that spacing it might not be confortable for me.

So are you saying that me and the Mrs could now buy one F ticket and travel together?

What a great plan. Might work out quite economical to travel F for the both of us after all :D

Taking a look at what's being offered for economy seating, it's interesting to see that all seats will have in-seat power supply.

Also, SQ's new KRISWORLD entertainment system with built-in office software facilities sounds good too.

I suppose this is a taste of what can be expected when they finally get the A380 up and running between SYD-SIN-LHR.

Don't suppose they'd retro-fit their 747-400 fleet with the new kit.

It looks like an amazing product and makes me seriously think about flying SQ next year on some of my RTW trips.

I cant believe how far beyond QF this is. You have to wonder (and I am sure NM will correct me on this :)) if this was a reaction to the A380 delays or planned all along. With CX and SQ putting out new products now is QF going to follow suit....

I know this isnt on QF's plan but they might have to react soon. I for one will be flying on CX a few times next year because of the new product.

Planned all along. Apparently there is an even better product coming with the A380 (at least in F).

What wasn't planned was the rollout would start with 777-300ER before A380.

How could the F seat be better? It must have to come down to service rather than seat surely? That must be where the marginal benefit could come from?

I believe SQ has planned this new cabin introduction for this time. The originally wanted to dual launch it with A380 and 777-300ER deliveries, but the A380 delivery delay means only the 777-300ER is available for the launch at this time. It would have been launched at this time with or without the A380.

there are other potential features that SQ hasn't yet done (eg cabin like EK A345) ...

Awsome. This alone is a feature I will treasure... I hate the time spent in the air as it is such a waste. Especially when you're not able to work properly. Hence I am buying a new second laptop just to work while I am in the air; a Sony Vaio 11.1" w/extra long life battery. With all extras it goes well beyond $5000 which is a drag, but then again .. time is money .. and it's money well spent.

Now that we can get power in all economy seats as well, I will for sure go to lenghts to stay with SQ flights where available. :)

Can't wait enough for it...

.. the only drag is that the wireless Internet is being shut down by Boeing. IMHO I believe it's a bit premature, and people's online presence has not been built up enought. However, if they would be able to provide Internet software in-seat as they are planning, it may become critical mass. Who knows, but one thing is for sure... I would really had liked to see that service extended.

Oh well ..

:)

$5,000 for a laptop just to work while in the air seems way over the top. Not wanting to drag this thread off-topic, take a look at the new DELL XPS-M1210. It's what I use for inflight in usage and it cost me far less than what you're thinkon of spending.

I hate to be a killjoy, but how will this work economically? If you replace a 2+3+2 with a 1+2+1, assuming the pitch remains the same you have just increased the cost recovery by a multiple of 7/4. Does that mean a business class seat on SIA will be double the price of competing airlines? There has to be some economic logic that I'm missing.....
