It has been reported that the new international lounge at PER T3 will be for international transit pax only (with the exception of those traveling on QF9 PER-LHR only).

All other QFi and JQi pax, including those travelling on QF10 PER-MEL only, will be required to use the domestic lounges in PER T4 and, once through immigration and security, left to sit and rot at the gate.

Qantas' new Perth Airport lounge is only for Boeing 787 passengers

So QF are actually going to penalise those pax who stopover in PER on their way to MEL on QF10. What did the $14M in corporate welfare get the taxpayers of WA except possibly extending the CL membership of the (soon to be former) Member for Cottesloe?

Although the opening hours required to service the QFi PER-SIN flights do not exactly coincide with the QF9/QF10 departures, I do believe it would be unreasonable to service these flights as well.

VA have copped a lot of criticism here over MEL-NAN pax having to use the domestic VA lounge prior to that flight (and VA do not have an airside lounge). Once airside in PER T3, domestic QF10 pax (including those in paid J) will be able to stand in front of and see inside a fully operating QF owned lounge but will not be allowed to enter it...

So there's a domestic lounge for domestic pax, and an Int lounge for int pax.

Sounds sensible.

(Yes i appreciate QF10 carries Domestic pax).

But it's dumb not to allow PER-SIN and PER-AKL pax to use.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Disappointing to hear, not so much about the loungei itself (sounds like just another champagne- less J lounge based on the AustBT review) but that this effectively turns the Dom J lounge into a landside lounge for dom pax.
Have got a trip to MEL booked on 10/9 in a few months so will find out then I guess.
Seriously hoping that the T2 departure from MEL on the return trip affords Flounge access for WPs and above though.

This is plain crazy. Sit in a comfortable lounge, relaxing before a flight to SIN or AKL, then leave in time to go through the melee at immigration and (possibly) security (again) to then wait in the crowd until boarding is called. What a stupid idea!

It's a stupid move by Qantas. With this lounge being called a "transit lounge" it's a further proliferation of nomenclature with names to circumvent oneworld rules.

Anyone thought this is possibly a publicity exercise? Announce the new lounge is only available to 787 pax - generate notions of 'exclusivity' - all the papers run the story, then open the lounge up to other flyers later?

I think it could be a good way to gain publicity for the WA residents to tell them to go shove it...

Don't think there is much love lost over Qantas and what they have done in WA over the last several years...

Might be a few rusted on types that still get teary eyed at all that Still call Australia home cough...

Took the words right out of my mouth. My first thought.

(except for the tautology "nomenclature with names") ;)

Thanks for the tip off.
Didn't realise how low QF has gotten!
Was hoping to test out the new T3 J lounge when doing PER - MEL one day soon.
Might as well buy a comfort seat request in whY and use the domestic QP rather than go with discJ with the news of this no international J lounge access.

OMG how ridiculous.

cough plane , now stupid lounge arrangement as well for PER - SIN

Please just cancel all your PER-SIN flights so work will let me fly SIA

Agree it's a stupid move but if the lounge is closed they aren't circumventing rules.

It does however seem strange to move the 737s from the Int terminal and not use this lounge. I can only imagine delays as 50 pax leave the Domestic lounge at the same time and clog up security and immigration

Remember security is done at the gate at many international airports, so there is nothing new about coming from a lounge to the gate which has security (they seem to cope just fine).
Immigration will surely be electronic gates, eliminating the need for queues.
Also not everyone (as much as everyone here thinks) is a lounge member or has access to ANY type of lounge.
The fact the 737 being used on PER-SIN keeps on coming up, it's a 5hr flight, there isn't a demand for the A330 product at all times, if there was it would be on there making money. It's been stated before too, that the majority of people don't even know what aircraft type they are on, let alone going out of their way to book a specific one.

It's not so great when the flight's delayed just before boarding commences. If you've left the lounge and passed through immigration, there's no going back to the lounge. This sounds like a massive downgrade for passengers on PER-SIN.

Only good thing with this QFi moving from PER T1 to T3 is that we don't have to physically travel across by bus anymore, if flying into PER T4 from anywhere else in Aust.
Granted not every one is a Lounge Lizard, but still, having an indepth look at it all, being a member of QP flying internationally around this part of the world (Au/NZ) is not really worth it anymore.

I would agree with that but it seems that's not the way QF is going about it. Qantas could limit the new lounge's hours to the time accommodating the Dreamliner passengers (which would still be a dog act but within the rules) and give the thing its proper title. Outside of those opening hours - of the Qantas International Business Lounge at PER T3 - passengers use the domestic lounges.

By calling it a "transit lounge" QF is deliberately and recklessly circumventing the rules. Particularly as a founding oneworld airline, it shouldn't be on.
