New Qantas Toolbar - Earn Bonus Points just for searching

Toolbar updated to 1 point with first search today.

(only got 90 points last month)

Do you mean actually credited to your QFF account or just the green congrats message? I have a feeling that getting the green message will not necessarily mean points end up in the QFF account, but I guess we will all find out later this month.

I've received the 200 sign up points but no search points yet.

I meant the green congrats message, but have no doubt they will get there in the end. The 200 went in quite quickly.

Just searched Cathay Pacific which was deemed invalid:

"This could have been for the following reasons:

  • You are in a country that is not eligible to earn rewards
  • Your search query was nonsensical or yielded no actual results
  • Your query originated from an automated process or macro
  • Your search patterns reflect that you are not actually using this service for results"

After a number of emails with the toolbar support team I am convinced they have no idea what they doing...

We understand your concern and apologize for your frustration. Please understand that as we previously explained if you continue to do a pattern of natural, real, qualified searches, you will see the resulting miles/points attributed to your account. The algorithms are put into place to insure that valid searches are rewarded to insure the integrity of the program.

I was deemed ineligible (and never reisinstated) when I was doing searches on day one with two airport codes, eg SCL-SYD, KTA-BNE. Maybe they deemed these to be random letter generators rather than genuine searches. Don't care to bother finding out anymore. Just confirmed what carp the yahoo search engine is!

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Now I know why I don't use Bing, definitely coughola! I just pop over to my MS Explorer browser and pop in the first 10 phrases I see on Ninemsn - which is also coughola. It just validates my choice to use Firefox and Google.

I had trouble with logging on and with searches on Tuesday ("Australian frequent flyer" didn't work ) but yesterday it was working ok. "Cathay Pacific" worked. My searches still haven't come up with a direct QF flight from ADL to SIN though ;)

Still waiting to see what points will actually credit to my FF account.

no points yet in FF account, does anyone know when they are meant to be credited? Its great getting a congratulations everytime you search, but irrelevant if you never receive points!

FAQ state that:
Qantas Points will be credited to Qantas Frequent Flyer accounts shortly after the beginning of each calendar month for the previous month's valid searches.

It's actually rebadged Microsoft Bing...

Even so it is worse than Bing.

Through the toolbar I can not do things like "1 usd in aud", Bing calculates this fine.
"Convert usd" in the toolbar gave 0 search results, not even XE.com (I dont know how this can be possible) however Bing gives the results you would expect.

When I travel to china I generally do not bother with Google as it is unreliable to access. I use Bing and have not found it to be that bad.

How long will this last for ?? 1 point per search...IMHO it is far too much effort for points that are now worth less.

Enjoy if the right word while you can and hit your 150 on one or two sessions. Probably already suggested but start with A say Aberdeen then use the drop down which gives several choices just need use delete a bit but hey presto you've got a few points but don't search numerals it don't like it.

I just tried it for the first time this month after cracking 150 points pretty quickly last month. I noticed that I quickly got 5 points but then every search was invalid after that indicating they have something there to stop "cluster bombing". I don't know whether it's a daily limit (or it's just me) but if that's the case then I'll uninstall it. Too painful and pointless (almost) to be bothered.

One way to speed things up if you're using Firefox or Chrome is to assign a keyword search to the Qantas / Bing / Yahoo! search box. Then you just keep going Alt-D, keyword search item, Enter, rinse and repeat.

Not sure if this works on other browsers.

It doesn't work at all now, even for legitimate searches.
One of the reasons given is probably this:
Your search patterns reflect that you are not actually using this service for results

But how the heck would they know?

That's the end of it for me. Waste of space.

I presume you weren't clicking on any of the results. That's what happened for me. A few new searches, clicking on a result. Then doing another search and clicking on any of the results. I think was back earning points after doing this 3 or 4 times.
