New Qantas safety demo 2020

I loved it. But as with all things, seeing it 100 times in the next year will turn it into the most hated piece of footage since Rick Astley.

IDEA! Why don't they do several versions/different cuts to make it interesting so that you only ever see a version max of 10 times? And use different tracks: Oils, Solid Rock, DownUnder, Great southern land, Sounds of then, etc.

I got it on a Dom flight this morning. Seeing it cold I liked it. Crew were smiling through it (even though Megan my excellent CSM was hearing it for the third time that morning).

A bit of humour but not too cheesy. Not cringeworthy like the last one (not just the double shots - how about the Aussies in the pool, the dropped phone, time for chilli crab etc etc).

Could have done with a bit more I still call Australia home though. Maybe QF doesn’t want everyone crying at the start of a flight.

I like the Spirit of Australia music, but how good would it be to have choir singing when deplaning in Oz after an overseas flight?

I enjoyed the cut down version of the new demo on QF600 this morning (still a bit long for my tastes).
I also endured 'Hey Beeeeeeeeeec' on QF842 later this morning, hadn't prepared myself for that; noise cancelling headphones were still in their case...

Nice job. About time they knocked one up better than Air NZ

Saw this linked on the Qantas website here : Fly with Australia’s most popular airline | Qantas AU

Quite a nice piece of production.

At more than 8 minutes long they will need some long taxiways to complete the pre-flight brief. I assume there is a cut down version.

I am a bit suspicious if Kane is really a pilot, his aileron movements at 0:26 dont look natural.

All up, I liked the video. Anyone seen it onboard?

I never have really got excited about new corporate videos of any type, and it is strange that we live in a world where the work experience people running (it seems) many of QF's function think that the release of a new corporate video is actual "news"?

As for the new video... meh. Better than the last one, sure. Better than the Travolta one - absolutely. Best in the air? Probs not.

I love it when they don't have the video at all...
Is it my imagination or is the dreaded "safety" briefing much shorter when it is audio only? I guess dead air (long stretches of silence) doesn't work with audio, but for the video you can minutes of unrelated visual "entertainment"...

VA B737 v QF B737 - I am not a scientist, scientician, or even someone that builds planes - but I reckon the safety features of each are very similar if not exactly the same? If so, why does it take QF much longer to get the message across?

Also, I did notice recently on a QF flight to Japan that they have an entirely separate video that plays AFTER the English version.... i was getting ready to pop the slide and run for the hills if I had to hear "dropped my phoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnne" again... but thankfully that version is edited down to about 50% of the English one.... now all we need them to do is make the English version of the cut-down Japanese one and then we are good to go!

I would be keen to see a director's cut of the older one where dropped-my-phone girl gets eaten by a lion, and the coffee boys get cornoavirus... :)

because many airlines no longer see the safety video as something that has a message to get across. They see it as a legal requirement that they can use for marketing and/or entertainment.

Well whoever is advising them that their video is "entertainment" needs to go back to school.... I have never come across or observed a single person that thinks QF's videos are "entertaining" - in fact, whenever it starts I look around the cabin and see people cringe, put on headphones to drown it out, roll their eyes etc. And this forum is certainly full of not-very-flattering comments too....

Have had this on about 4 domestic flights this week (all 737s - and the advice does say to pull down firmly on the mask). Not sick of it yet. Best one since 2016 in my view.
CSM on my flight MEL-CBR flight yesterday stepped into the cabin to watch the ending - gave me a big smile too.
Some crew seem to be struggling with the re-ordering of safety elements (lifejacket and mask have switched I think) plus new safety cards seem to have also changed a bit.

No thanks... the children's choir was done to death

Anyone know if this is being phased out? I was on an A330 over the weekend and a new audio only safety demo was played… kind of similar to what is used on a Dash-8.

Can understand Qantas not wanting to spend money to produce a new video in these times.

Same one for me on several weekend flights.

a new audio only safety demo was played

Is this in part because the IFE is still disabled? So the TVs arent active to play a safety video?

Ive only been on smaller planes of late, that only ever had audio.

The safety demo could still be played as the IFE system is never turned off because it has emergency announcements built into it. You can disable the entertainment part of it though but regulatory videos can always be played.

There is a crew brief about a change to the demo around the removal of a mask if the oxygen masks drop so I imagine they just did audio only.

The IFE had been reactivated on my flight but even when it was disabled last year the demo video still played for me on the flights I was on. When this new audio version played, everything was locked out with an "Announcement in progress" message and no video. This was also different to the aircraft that don't have seatback screens where they play an audio version of the centenary demo video (with music and all). It was a completely new version that I hadn't heard before with no music or bells and whistles.

We had the centernary video on BNE-SYD, SYD-SYD (eclipse scenic flight) and SYD-BNE last week.

It was cool seeing the "International" version on the 787, with the comments about not moving your seat if your phone gets stuck, and the pilot holding a brick mobile phone in the coughpit. :p

Though the Teen loves the cigarette part - " ... or eCigarettes ... whatever they are". Haha! Groan. :p
