New Qantas promos including double status credits (book by 3/9/25; travel 4/9/25 until 22/8/26)

I needed 683 sc to get LTG., now because of this U-turn I’ve just booked and will pick up 640, any suggestions for the other 43 greatly appreciated.

We got in touch with Qantas regarding the lifetime status credits issue. This is the statement they gave us regarding the reversal of this decision:

It doesn't look like they'll be changing their stance though on the status credits from the "thank you" gift not counting towards lifetime status.

Thank you Matt, you’re always helpful 👌

Loyalty bonus or green tier would take care of that if achievable for you
Note that DSC don’t count to the bonus you get for each of the first 4 lots of 500 SC earnt each membership year. Only standard status credits count towards that. You can check in the app or on the website how far away you are from the next bonus. If 320 or less SC away and the flying you booked is in this membership year then great!

off topic

Your nearest airport?
You will be getting a loyalty SC gift bonus by 30 Sept at the latest.
And the normal 50SC or points for every 500SC (subject to t&c's) This is changing
Melbourne and I had forgotten about the annual 50sc loyalty bonus

Great thanks for that👍

Not at all surprised by the backlash and turnaround - given frequent flyers are, actually, frequent flyers, a significant percentage of QFF'ers would not receive any benefit at all from the 'thank you' SC's. This would include those who already had their status assured for their next status year and those who hadn't yet but would have, by virtue of normal flying in the next 1-11 months:
I'd estimate a minimum of 30%, and possibly over 50% of all PS, SG and WP pax wouldn't have made any use of the 'thank you' SC - i.e. the genuinely loyal QFF pax are literally being shafted by the promo. Can't believe the blind hubris at QF.....I think the 'thank you' SC should be called the 'f%#* you' SC...

It is so disappointing that Qantas engineers a loyalty gift that is entirely useless for a good chunk of their loyal flyers.

It really isn't that complicated to build some flexibility into the T&Cs that gives a thank you back to everyone who supports them.

The results show those events haven’t been challenging at all. QF is as strong as ever.

😂 Too strong - that's the problem. Arrogant so they do what they like, break the law as they like, and the lemmings will keep coming back for more high fares and cough service.

It occurred to me that a loyalty bonus based around the number of domestic and international qf sectors flown may have been fairer in numerical terms and truely linked to loyalty in flying qf

I agree. I only fly QF when I can't avoid it these days, so the 150 SCs = 🤷‍♂️. That said, they are valueless to me, so maybe they do know what they are doing.

.... nah.

What a joke they are cutting the double bonus status credit from counting towards life time status. I was banking on this promotions to get me to life time gold.

It’s wrong qantas. You should be looking after your customers and keep in the bonus stays credits toward life time status
They're reversed this decision.

I’m looking at flying Perth-Tokyo via Syd/Mel in J in early March and am getting a price over $7k. Does anyone know how much this usually costs during sales (it’s outside school holidays)?

Even in Iceland (where I am having a great time at the moment) I heard about the surprise DSC offer so decided to book the flights to South Africa for Seat Son’s wedding next year. Stuffed around for ages using the user unfriendly multi city tool to book CBR-SYD-JNB-CPT-VFA-JNB-SYD-CBR, all in business except the inevitable dash-8 connections to/from SYD. Got a price of $17,387 for two - yikes that’s a lot of money, but I have been watching these fares for a while, and even on the latest sale the best price was just u der $17k.

Put in all the details, moved to the payment page and it errored out.

Tried again, same result. Despite the time zone difference, spoke to Seat Friend who will be attending the wedding and she’d had the same experience- and was charged twice for her failed bookings. So I bit the bullet and called QF to get it sorted out. Hard to do on a data only SIM but thanks to Mr Seat 0A’s technology smarts I had a VOIP app I could use.

End result, after nearly 3 hours on the phone and speaking to 4 people, no booking. Initially South Africa, handed off to Hobart, then back to South Africa resolutions team, and finally South Africa Resolutions supervisor. All actually useless. Including Hobart.
Along the way, I got the following gems:

* “there are no flights between SYD and CBR on 14 April 2026. Oh not even on 15 April. The earliest connection (to the arrival from JNB on 14 April at 1445) you can make will be 16 April.” I call total bs on that one.
* “ok I’ve put those flights in. The total will be $22,586 for 2 people.” “ well the web site said it would be $17k odd”. “Oh could you talk me through that so I can see what it shows? Oh look at that, it shows $17k odd. Well I can get approval to honour the web site price.” I should jolly well think so.
* can I have the name of the other passenger please?” “Sure, it’s Mr Seat 0A and his FF # is ….” “Why are you giving me his number? Do you want the flight booked under your number or his?” “Well I want both numbers on the booking so we both get the Double Status Credits for these flights” “I have never heard of that.” OMFG.
* “it won’t allow a connection to CBR after this flight.” By now I was so worn down I said, just leave off the connection thinking I’d get a reward seat, but the price then jumped from $17k odd by over $500 - to take one less flight, which they could not explain
* “oh looks like I can’t book you on the code share JNB-CPT because it’s on a different airline, not QF” - kind of thought that’s what a code share was.

So as the rest of my travel group had been inside enjoying the Sky Lagoon for this whole time, I left it at that - and they incredulously said “but don’t you want us to make a booking for you?” Come on QF, what the actual? I want to drop $17k+change on you right now and you cannot manage to do it?

After a bit of a relax, I came back to hotel and tried again. The flights I wanted had now gone up to over $20k - and yes I cleared cache, changed browser and used a VPN. To say I was furious understates my level of sheer aggro towards QF at this point. So I recalculated the need for SC for Mr Seat 0A and me, and decided to blow some of my stash of points on Classic Plus Awards ~ 1.1 million points and $1900 got me CBR-JNB return for us both, and I booked the connections direct with Airlink for ~$2,500 thus yielding a saving of somewhere between $13-16k. Maybe it’s toaster territory, but I just could not face calling them about it any more. /rant/

Wooo that s insine. You are like: "shut up and take my money" and they cant even do that. Hopeless Qantas.

I thought the infamous CBR-SYD connection to international leg was just a problem for CR, surprise it does apply to cash fare. I have heard too many times "there is no flight between SYD-CBR 11 months out" too many times. Still unclear why, but Hobart always manages those.

I hit LTG on my 30th birthday.
Now in my 40's, I find LTG useful, although I hold multiple, fully-earned top-tier status with other airlines.
I don't live in Australia, and when I do fly oneworld carriers - QF picks up accrual revenue. So it's a case of - QF earns something rather than nothing. I've spent a fortune with QF over the years, and while I find it difficult to fly with them not based in Aus, they pickup a few bucks when I fly other OW carriers.

I have raised the issue with QF Loyalty many times over the years of LTG needing to be fixed.
All they need to do is give LTG members 600 SC to start the year, not counting those towards lifetime status, and boom - everything is fixed.

The perceived 'loss' on Platinums+ who also hold LTG getting a free kick each year (the perceived loss is in the assumption these members will fly 600SC less) is mitigated by kicking in the 600 SC starting credits after holding LTG for 10-years. Let's call it, Lifetime Gold Plus, and it's then a benefit of LTG+.
