Interesting update and release

I like how they’ve included subliminal clapping in disembarkation music
Perhaps customers will feel less of a need to erupt into clapping after a turbulent landing

Seriously, my brain just does not register the elevator boarding music on most airlines. It's always boring, and when I'm boarding, I'm concentrating on finding my seat, putting my luggage away, and download all my e-mail for the one last time before take off. My brain is just so busy.

They should try this:

Yes, airlines should play this, so people would hurry up with playing Tetris in the overheads and sit down and shut up, so they don't block the rest of the plane from boarding.

Or, call Australia home, if it's QFi.

That's it. All other boarding music is just elevator music to me. If Qantas wants to be Aussie, play Australian artists from Hottest 100

And my comments is not just on QF. Every airline is the same.

Maybe there should be different music for each destination? The Japanese do it for their train stations.

Do you know about "eki-melody", the music played in Japanese train stations? These easily recognizable melodies are a quirk of stations in Japan.

I guess you’re not really the target audience. And that's just fine.

Whilst not to everyone's taste, boarding music (arguably) serves multiple purposes, such as -:

• Helping create a calm and welcoming atmosphere for passengers as they board, which can put some passengers more at east. This would be especially helpful for those who might be nervous or anxious about flying
• Creating a more pleasant soundscape that helps to mask the sound of the aircraft’s engines and other ambient noises that might otherwise disturb or unsettle some passengers
• Signaling different stages of the boarding process
• Reinforcing the airline's branding/identity or the cultural atmosphere of the region in which they operate

Obviously everyone will have a different opinion about the relative merits and/or degree of success regarding any of the above (or other) reasons for such music, but it's certainly a strategic tool that's employed with one or more purposes in mind.

Not always. A few years ago VA SYD-CBR introduced me to DMAs as their (noticeably loud) boarding music. I had to shazam it and I'm now a big fan. They are from SYD but it didn't seem like an orchestrated choice or soundscape design by VA though. Felt more like the hostie just chucked on her fav CD at the time.

I like the Hottest 100 idea too. Provided the last 15 or so years are ignored. I'm that kind of old.

Back when Qantas first took over Impulse, the boarding music for those flights I took before they were fully integrated was "You Can't Fight the Moonlight" - the theme song from "Coyote Ugly".

Since I think airlines should play something meaningful, like representative of the flag they are flying for, so I guess, Virgin Atlantic should be playing, right now in the month of Feb, like this?!

This. They should play music which is meaningful.

So for example, Cathay Pacific could be playing Hong Kong top 10 for English and Cantonese songs, BA could be playing selection from UK singles chart, you get my drift.

The only real difference I'm hearing in those previews is that the disembarkation music includes clapping.

These modern 787-10s should replace the aging Airbus A330 on Australia’s east-west routes.

Snowflake in 1A! It’s totally harmless and takes all of 15 seconds when you probably have noise cancelling headphones on. Not to mention it’s something that many of us are either not bothered by or actually support it happening.

It’s a shame that some choose to shun and attack a unique part of life in this great country. Aboriginal cultures are here for all of us to embrace and celebrate - just like the Kiwis and Māori cultures and practices.

Anyway, after a few listens through and the new music is quite good. A nice evolution from the old one.

Sorry, but your'e talking down to others just as John Farnham and others did with the Voice referendum. Your'e entitled to your opinion, and that's where it ends, scolding others is not negotiable.

Then perhaps if you want to hear it you should play it on your own noise cancelling headphones . I take mine off for landing for safety reasons.
