New promo coming

The OP qualified her comments and so your post is uncalled for.

Personally I am thankful for her "heads up" irrespective how valuable or not the promo turns out to be.

Big deal

I'll believe it when it starts and when the T&C's are made clear and then I'll get excited if it's a good deal.

Until then it's just gossip from poorly paid, and generally cough CSR's. May or may not be true

End of story

Do we think promos are a good thing?

I am always more afraid of what happens on the otherside (eg the oneworld 10% promo)

Depends what promos you are talking about :)

EG 4 cents a litre off petrol - BAD promo, prices are starting to creep up higher and higher as the little guys are forced out of the marketplace.

Amex is VERY VERY unlikely to change anything with their rewards or redemptions. They are getting serious competition from the likes of the Westpac KF card. Heck I have pumped everything onto that card and not used my normal Amex cards for months now. Amex have lost around $2000 in merchant fees from me in the past few months.

Yes Amex promos are a good thing, read back for the 5,000 points for every 5 transactions thread

If a promo was "bad" and they wanted to change things they would have after that one

Factually incorrect as they have already changed several things since the Everyday Promo.

ie reduced earning rate, change of rounding, tightening of promo entering procedures..................

To have calculated that, as the KF card is an Amex card if you are earning the 3 points per $ you must be aware then of what the difference to Amex is from purchases made on either Amex card.

What is it?

In my case case the KF card has me spending on a Platimum Card rather than an Amex Gold card which as I understand things means that higher merchant fees are charged. Whether Amex itself makes more out of this as well I don't know.

ie reduced earning rate, change of rounding, tightening of promo entering procedures..................

Factually correct for me, no change to me
Reduced earning rate - Not to me
Tightening of promos - The last promo was meant to be targeted it was a once off mistake that is wasn't
Rounding - Not interested in looking for a few points here and there

Can't say I've noticed this things (aside from maybe tightening of promo's, but this is difficult to assess)

You should have qualified your post then. No mention of it being confined to just you.

Sorry. Why was the last promo a mistake?

As far as I am aware the last Amex promo was fine.

Indeed the last several Amex promos have been fine.

Someone needs a chill pill.

An amex rep tells me that 'soon' they'll offer double points to blue card and plat credit card holders on purchases at Coles, Woolworths, IGA, BP 'and other places'.

So far as she knew there was no 'double points' on airfares bought on the card.

It'll be interesting to see what happens if you buy $100 of groceries and use the Woolies Card to get 70 qff points. If you then pay on Amex, will we get 200 membership reward Ascent points as well that can be used on other airlines? In other words, will a $100 purchase at Woolies equal say 70 qff points and 200 velocity points?:D

Indeed.
ie at present if you have the KF Amex your $100 gets:
*70 QFF points
*300 KF points

Came home to a glossy envelope from Amex. :)

Opened it to find a postcard offer.

Hopes dashed though to read that it was not a new promo, but rather just an offer to take out an Amex Platinum card...and with no bonus points or even a partial fee waiver!!!! :(

Got an email this morning inviting me to register for a competition where I could win a $10000 shopping spree. You get one entry for every transaction  at selected stores; a purchase of $500 or more awards 10 entries.

Not sure if this is the "promo", but it's nothing to go dancing on the roof hillbilly-style about.

You know what would be really nice? If I can somehow get my old life back but I know this is not possible because if that was possible then I would not make that mistake in 1989 and be married now.
