This month we are set to announce a new partnership and venture that we are pretty excited about and believe you'll be too.

We'd like to offer five members of the Australian Frequent Flyer Community the chance to be the first to learn about it by enjoying a lunch with a few key members of our team.

To register your interest, you will need to have:

1. Been a member of AFF for at least 1 year
2. A current Velocity membership
3. Be available for a lunchtime meeting in Sydney on June 14th. Flights will be provided from the nearest port for those interstate (no guarantees that the flight will be a new 737 with BSI!)

If you are members of both, available on the date, and wish to join us, private message us with your Velocity number, contact name, number and email, plus answer the following in under 25 words: why should you be one of the 5 selected participants in the pre-launch lunch for the Velocity initiative?

The five most creative answers (need to be in our inbox by 9am Thursday 9th June 2011) to the question will be chosen by Velocity Rewards who will then announce the five members here on Australian Frequent Flyer forum.

Final decision rests with Velocity Rewards.

Look forward to hearing from you!

Note: We have contacted the AFF admin, and he has approved this post. The Australian Frequent Flyer has no financial interest in this offer and will not be involved in the invitee selection process. The Australian Frequent Flyer management team (ie. admin and all moderators) will not be available for selection.

Wow, generous offer. Sadly I cant do 14/6 as I'd loved to have gone. Good luck to those involved.

Hmm.

Hi VR,

Are you after a particular group of flyers, eg. very frequent ones or like cross section of different levels of membership?

Damn ... disappointed I can't take part, but only good things can come of this. :p

I can be free and I'm already in Sydney ... Many sads will be had.

That sounds like a great offer! Really glad you are keen to hear everybody's feedback.

Argh. I changed accounts at the end of last year. So I don't think I'm elgible. Damn, I would have really liked to participate. I've even got that day off. :/

Such a shame that I haven't been here for one year yet :(

May I say - without clogging up this thread, that this is just another fantastic example of Virgin Australia engaging with their customers.

Kudos Velocity Rewards

Now for the inevitable: Any chance of me being a PA or even the waiter for the event? No? Okay. :(

PS: Does the fact that Thursday 9th June (date of closure for entries) is my birthday get me an automatic vote? ;)

Assuming the free flight offer doesn't apply to Canada it won't be me. However i'm excited by the announcement.

[Note to self: stop getting excited by VA's announcements. Your heart can't handle all this excitement!]

Liam,

You could probably ask / submit. As long as you have had an account and it can verified, it might be ok.

Bah, I fail on the 1 year membership by 1 month. If only the years I spent lurking could count

Using my incredible powers of deduction...

It's not Star Alliance according to JB.
JB says Singapore completes their major airline partnerships for now.
It's a "new partnership" though.

So it's probably a partnership with someone who isn't an airline.

So... My money is on FlyBuys.

However given they're inviting a few Frequent Flyers along it may well include some significant aspect (or even the whole of) the Velocity relaunch. After all, they've done pretty much all the work you'd think they'd need to prepare for it with Spore announcement and the IT upgrade.

Maybe they'll throw in a platinum announcement as well :)

We will see.

Finally, something I'm eligible for! (Unlike status matches or double status credits! :-|)

Now if only I could reengage the dormant right side of the brain... hmm...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Surely they wouldn't shoot themselves in the foot after all the good work they've done recently?

Not sure how it would be shooting themselves in the foot. They bring millions of new people over with a loyalty stake, they (probably) start making serious money on the sale of FF points (as QF now do), and those of us who aren't particularly concerned can totally ignore it.

What's the downside?

I doubt that very much,I have a contact at Coles and he has told me that the FlyBuys revamp is much bigger than just a link to an airline,I have some inside knowledge of what is happening with the FlyBuys relaunch but I can't reveal any details in public.
Virgin and Coles may link up but the FlyBuys revamp is still quite a few months away yet.
Cheers

Well my powers of deduction have failed me before!

So, the question is probably whether it's "new" if it relates to an airline? There are many announcements yet to come about the details of the SkyWest ATRs, of the Trans Tasman deal with ANZ -- it could well be the announcement of them -- the timing seems right.

Seem unlikely that JB was flat out lying about the Singapore announcement completing their major airline partners announcement.

What else would be possible? Hmmmm...

Look you may be right,I have no idea but I have heard that the FlyBuys revamp is really a big deal and that's why I can't see anything being revealed yet,but it may involve the link between Coles and Virgin which I'm told is a done deal, maybe they want to know what sort of earn rate/ redemption rate you would be happy with on a Coles/Velocity FF card.?
Anyway keep those brain cells working:!:.
