Buy BagTag 7000pts.

I'm sure I saw a vending machine at either MEL or PER , where you could buy a bag tag - didn't take a lot of notice, I must admit.

MEL has two of them, and suprisingly have sold quite alot of them.
Some people seem to have no idea what they are actually used for. I've seen one (in purple, I should add) attached to a baggage on the belt in SIN, off a Jetstar flight.

If it wasn't for the fact that I know for sure that these tags exist I might now be starting to wonder whether they were a myth of the caliber suitable for MythBusters to examine.
I received an email from QF on February 11 asking me to confirm my postal address so that they could"dispatch my kit in the near future" or words to that effect ,it's now May 28 and no sign of them ,I could of course call them and ask where they are but to be honest I can't be bothered,to me it's just another example of Qantas unreliability.
Cheers

No need to be cheeky.

I associate the bag tags with NGCI.

Can someone please explain to me why I need to use the new bag tags and what advantages I gain from their use? It is just a bag tag but a little smarter in that it carries a little more information. Once the bag tag is lost then the information it carries is useless. For me I still prefer to have bag tag labels printed for my luggage which gives me greater protection as there is the bag tag label and the label that is peeled off and stuck to a different part of the luggage.

Now why do I need to use the bag tags again?

I think I understand you associate the tags with NGCI, and they are part of the NGCI system. Just trying to say that they can also be used separately from the NGCI system.

Certainly not saying that you need to use the bag tags, just saying that you can use the bag tags and still talk to a person.

The missing tag point that you mention is a fairly big pro for paper tags. On advantages of the bag tags, I've already mentioned the benefits as I see them overall I think it is 50/50. But then I rarely check luggage.

I noticed that option a little while ago on the website. $50 or 7000 points - they're dreaming!

Extremely surprising? A bag tag is a bag tag but the QF one is a very expensive bag tag.

Do people think they are going to get faster luggage on the carousel at destination with these new bag tags?

No, it saves people from putting in on them selves.
It also reduces the likely hood of it getting lost, as it will only go down once the information has been confirmed on the q-tag.

As for paper tags with agents, these can be easily ripped off or stuck very loosly. Also removes the chance of old barcodes on peoples bags which the baggage system does read.

Obviously you are against the tags (for what ever reason), but luckly the majority of ff'ers and non members are happy with what they now have.

Little known fact, the q-bag tags mishandled baggage rate are still way behind the paper bag tage rate.

I don't check in luggage all to often when on QF. Maybe 1 out of 10 flights. When I do, I use my QBag tag, at the self serve kiosk. In SYD they are on the way to security, so for me, it generally makes things quicker by a few seconds. I've never lost a bag, or lost a tag.

They work just fine, they don't magicley make it better, to me its the same process, just with a different looking tag.

Not sure I am actually against the new bag tags. I was never interested from the beginning and when I saw the new bag tags they did nothing for me.

Please note that I do not like using any bag tags on my current bags so that may have something to with it.

Interesting. I would have thought with the new bag tags that baggage would have gone on status runs more often.

Just a few extra points on NGCI (not directly the bag tags)
- The automatic bag drop will not accept bags with multiple tags on it (a common factor under the old system as to why bags got lost). This is including the bingo-stubs (the little sticker barcode)
- QF's memo stated to staff about 9 months ago is to not rip these stubs off and put them on to the bag, and just to leave them on the tag.
- Passengers are responsible for any old tags on their bags, not an airline!
- The auto bag drop will not accept any bags with out info being written to the Q-tag

Interesting. I would have thought with the new bag tags that baggage would have gone on status runs more often.

When doing it through a staff member there is a possibility of it not being done correctly and then the bag gets sent down.

Auto-bag drop, something has to be written on the tag for it to be sent down, it is impossible for the bag with no tag or no info written on to the tag to be sent down.

The only issue with the auto-bag drop is when customers don't exit or cancel the previous screen when a previous person has just used it. Some people are pressing continue, and by doing that they are using the pervious person's flight details and those details are writing on to the Q-tag. (as the q-tag is not directly related to any person or flight). That has been fixed a little bit though by reducing the time-out screen (from about 12sec to about 5sec) after a bag has been accepted.

problem could be averted if the passenger was made to scan their FF card when they are done dropping off the luggage.

That is just stupid, slows down the whole process. Defeating the point of faster, smarter checkin.

Maybe you should just have to press a finish checkin button at the end? Once that is pressed you get some sort of visual indication of the process being complete.

That is the problem now. people aren't pressing the finish button when they are done.

Scanning a card sure is a lot of work and take lots of time. stupid.

I had mine sent to me here in BKK, but they're still in the box; can't use them on Intl flights just yet.

I have my old WP on my hand luggage - saves me picking up the wrong one in the QP!;)

It's not a DYKWIA thing - I just can't be bothered paying for tags when QF have supplied some that work perfectly well.

Did anyone notice the staged product placement of NGCI on Masterchef this week.

The funniest bit is the sequence of implying that one of the contestants swiped their PS card, with the name "Test Card", followed by putting their bag through with a NB/QP coloured bag tag.

LOL!

Meh! They are bulky and a waste of space for me. Putting them on carryon just ytakes up weight space for travel.

Checking though in U class from DRW yesterday (who aren't NGCI enabled in any case) My barcoded tape had a 20mm Square box printed indicating business priority. Another SG on the same flight but in economy had a 20mm circle just stating priority.

Both bags came out within the first 20 or so. Note this was on a transfer from a containerised 763 to a "Magic Carpeted" 73H.

The bit I enjoyed the most was the small celebration the contestants had when they scanned their card at the Q card reader and it actually worked. They seemed both shocked and surprised at the same time.

OT: Incidentally I think that the contestant from Perth didn't talk anywhere near enough about how her husband is a miner.
