Red Roo, what's the official word on the mailout of NGCI cards and tags, for those of us still waiting for ours? When should the mailout be completed?

Oh yeah, I know what the website says, which is why I asked the CSR on the phone. She insisted that QPNB still get them - that's what gets my goat.

I don't travel that often with checked luggage anyway, but it'd be nice to at least have.. I can always do with more coasters

I was given the same advice re the bag tags by a different operator.

I was unhappy to find out the opposite was true, but have bigger things to worry about

As noted in this months Mag, by the end of the month!

Good to hear!

NGCI went live at MEL last night, so looks like you're one of the first AFFers to experience it at MEL T3.

As I'm one of the first... and still here... do you think you could get the lounge staff to allow me into the J lounge, or maybe even CL :D

I'm getting awfully bored in the QP ;)

It'd be a good prize :)

Well Qantas still doesn't believe my past loyalty is worthy of recognition. I am still awaiting delivery of my new Gold card and my Gold RFID tags. I understand I may not be top of the list, but would have expected to receive them by now :(.

Same here. A Silver in my household received theirs months ago, and every Platinum and Gold I know have theirs. And it seems lots of Bronze members have their cards now as well.

I dont understand why so many people in this forum are complaining about NGCI and QF removing the 'service'.
All Gold, Platnium, Chairmans Lounge and Business customers (which are the majority of people on this forum) are welcome to join the permium service desk queue and so 'speak to a real person' in a transactional style.

Ie: Hi Mr Peters, How many bags?, That's gate 2. Next. Hi Mr Roberts, How many bags, Gate 1 for you today. Next.

But you see this is still going to be a situation where the vocal few who don't like the system will complain and make wild accusations and conspiracies. People/passengers state that there will be job losses, fewer staff etc etc. But really you say that to us, but 5min later you have forgotten about us and go about your normal life.

The same things were said when the Quickcheck kiosks were installed many years ago, and the introduction of online checkin, advance seat selection and mobile checkin.. Now tell me how many of you haven't used these systems in anyway, shape or form and always decide to go to a checkin counter to 'speak to a real person' especially when you have no bags?

So is this the Qantas Spin? :-|

Have just come back from Hong Kong and you cannot use new tags yet internationally but apparently not too far away. Have tried to read all of this thread but admit to only reading reading about 30 of the 65. Here in Perth have been using these tags for some months and no real problems except with oversized bags. Beaware that you cannot use a tag on normal sized bag and lodge accordingly then go to oversized lodgement area with you other bag. They will not accept. Join the queue for those that are platinium and book in normally. Recent experience saw me nearly miss flight. Took 90 minutes to sort out the mess and baggage staff had to issue new maual tags then find my bags somewhere down the chute. Dont know whether this has been sorted out since but may be worth an enquiry.

I wouldn’t imagine they’d be available internationally for quite some time if ever, as such a feature would require every airport your bag goes to, to have RFID readers and associated technology installed in it!

I do think RFID tags are the way to go in the future, and HK already has similar systems, but I doubt Q-tags would be that interoperable.

Same could be said for barcodes in the past. Provided the frequency has been agreed on for the RFID, then I can't see it not working. They may already have a standard in place for this.

One downside of NGCI, that I recently discovered is that without a physical boarding pass, one may forget what time their actual flight is, and attempt to board a flight 30 mins earlier, delaying the boarding of the completely full MEL-SYD 19:00, and then have to walk back to the lounge past 2 lines of unimpressed pax....

Oh how embarassment for 'a friend of yours'.;)

Using paperless to its maximum potential has certainly focussed my mind on the flight number and the time.

But thanks - forewarned is forearmed!

Just an update.

If you haven't received your NGCI kit yet, rest assured that we haven't forgotten about you. As you can understand, by virtue of the large volume of Members that this roll out applies to, we have had to prioritise the roll out schedule towards the most likely high users of NGCI, based on travel frequency through NGCI ports, as well as factors such as your tier renewal date.

The majority of kits have been now sent out. Based on the latest information we have, we are expecting the roll out to be complete within the next two months. Rest assured we are focused on delivering the kits out as quickly as we can.

Whilst I suspect most AFF Members are good in this regard, it would assist us greatly if you could ensure that your contact information is up to date in your profile. This will help us ensure your new NGCI kit is sent to the correct address.

Thanks for your patience and apologies for any inconvenience.

Red Roo,
On behalf of my neighbour who is a Bronze FF with paid QP membership do you have any idea when the bag tags will be available for purchase and will Bronze QP er's get NGCI cards?
Cheers

Just wondering - if you've received a NGCI card by virtue of your QP membership, and you've just tripped over to Silver, when would you expect to see your bag tags arriving?

Will let you know when Q Bag Tags go on sale - advice I have currently is that this will be soon.

Qantas Club Bronze Members do receive the new cards, click here for further details.

When will I receive my new Qantas card?

Platinum, Gold and Silver Frequent Flyers as well as members of the Qantas Club will receive new 'intelligent Q' smart-chip enabled Qantas cards by early 2011.

Once your tier upgrade has been registered, this should take around 3 weeks at the moment. With the roll out of NGCI, we are distributing higher than usual volumes of membership kits.
